Chris Pratt The Next Indiana Jones? Producers Finally Put The Rumors To Rest

There has been some interesting developments in regards to the next man to play Indiana Jones. Although there have been a lot of rumors circulating that Chris Pratt was in line to play the next reincarnation of the insanely popular character, producer Frank Marshall recently cleared the air a little on a potential reboot of the hit film franchise.

According to Hollywood Life, Marshall revealed that there are a number of different actors that could potentially be offered to play the iconic role. “There are a lot of rumors,” Marshall stated. “We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton.”

At the same time, the producer went on to add that they might not even recast the character at all. Instead, the studio may have other plans for the franchise, including revamping the story to feature new characters.

“[We’re] not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones. We have to figure this out.”

The idea that there won’t be a new actor playing Indiana Jones should come as a relief to many fans who cannot image anyone other than Harrison Ford playing the beloved character. According to Cinema Blend, this also opens the door for the franchise to explore other storylines involving a new adventurer and a new actor to play him (or her).

In fact, this is exactly the direction many fans thought the franchise was taking following the latest Indiana Jones movie. Considering Marshall’s latest comments on the matter, it seems likely that producers have not abandoned this idea yet and might implement it in the next movie.

Furthermore, if the next Indiana Jones film features a new explorer, it might leave open the possibility of a cameo by Harrison Ford. Of course, this would depend on the plot of the film, but it could be possible that Jones acts as a sort of mentor to the new character.

That being said, Ford is getting up there in years so it isn’t certain that he would be available to take part in a future film, whenever it ends up starting. However, Ford has kept himself busy in a number of new projects lately – including Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Blade Runner 2 – so he may enjoy adding another Indiana Jones film to his credits. At this point, the only thing working against him is time.

Meanwhile, although Chris Pratt has been the fan favorite to become the next Indiana Jones, the Jurassic World star doesn’t seem completely committed to the idea of becoming the next Indy. In fact, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pratt stated that he would have to do a lot of thinking before he accepted such a popular role.

“You have to look at it and be like, ‘Is this right for me?'” the Guardians of the Galaxy star explained. “Is it right for me to do this? And is it perfect? You don’t want to be the guy who f–s that up. It’s pretty crazy that people hear that and they don’t go ‘What?!? That f—ing dude!’ What has happened in my life that you can see THAT?!”

However, if the franchise decides not to simply reincarnate Indy, then perhaps Pratt would be more open to playing the lead in the next Indiana Jones movie. After all, if producers stick to their guns, and we have no reason to believe they won’t, then Pratt won’t have to worry about topping Ford’s portrayal of the character so beloved by fans.
