‘Hawaii Five-0’ Spoilers: What’s Up With Those Calls To Steve, Plus Details On The Halloween Episode

Hawaii Five-0 has introduced somewhat of a mystery with phone calls that Steve McGarrett is receiving in the latest episode, though fans shouldn’t expect that to be something that comes up very often. However, the question does remain: Who’s calling him and why?

Steve’s first thought when his phone rang and no one answered after he said “Hello?” twice was that it could be Catherine. Michelle Borth reprised her role as Catherine Rollins for the first three episodes of Hawaii Five-0 season 6 after returning to Hawaii in the season 5 finale for Adam and Kono’s wedding, and while Steve was planning to propose – he had the ring and had told Danny and everything – he never did so because he found her sitting on the front porch with her bags packed. While she had told Danny earlier “there’s nothing I’d love more” than to stick around for good when he checked in with her, Catherine told Steve that she needed more than she got from their relationship, that she needed to feel needed, like he is with Five-0, and for her, that meant heading off to Nepal to help earthquake victims. And so Steve was left with the ring.

However, that wasn’t the entire story. As she headed to the airport, Catherine answered a secure call from someone making sure Steve bought her cover story and the lieutenant was ready for her assignment. There was more to Catherine’s story than met the eye, raising questions like where she was really going and how long this assignment had been on the table.

Because of that, it’s no wonder that it seems possible that Steve’s mysterious caller, from the number 881-69438261, an international number without a country code indicating it’s probably from a satellite phone, as he tells Danny, could be Catherine. Danny does suggest someone else (Doris), but since Steve can’t trace the calls, there’s not much he can do about finding out who’s on the other end.

Fortunately, TVLine has reported that showrunner Peter M. Lenkov has shared that they will reveal what’s going on with those calls in Hawaii Five-0 season 6.

“It’s not an ongoing [plot point], but it’s definitely a cloud that’s not going away,” he said, adding, “I like that people are thinking that” it has something to do with how Catherine left at the end of episode 3. Could that mean they have nothing to do with that and he likes that people are looking in the wrong direction as to what’s really going on there?

While fans are going to have to wait for that answer, they don’t have to wait to see what H5-0 has planned for Halloween this year, as not only is there more than one case for the team to solve, but Danny’s going to have his hands full with his daughter. First, as for the cases, the team has to track down a serial killer inspired by Frankenstein, plus Jerry turns to them for help when an armed gang raids a blood bank.

The “Na Pilikua Nui” promo offers a look at the serial killer case, and the team has “a lot of” body parts on their hands.

The Hawaii Five-0 sneak peek posted by CBS shows Jerry arriving at the blood bank to donate blood while dressed as Dracula. It’s a tradition for him, one he only had to miss last year due to being kidnapped, as he explains.

Lenkov spoke to TVGuide.com about the hour, explaining that they “try to outdo [themselves] in the scary department” each season.

“I think this year definitely is the scariest we’ve done. We try to root them as much as we can in reality, and try to debunk the myths of Frankenstein and Dracula.”

As for Danny’s problem, he has to track down his daughter when Grace sneaks out to a Halloween party, which leads to some conflict, as Lenkov teased.

“Danny’s daughter escapes to go to a party with kids that are a little bit older than her. He goes and hunts her down and has to extract her from this party. There’s a little bit of a rift between daughter and father in that.”

TVGuide.com also shared a sneak peek from this week’s Hawaii Five-0 episode of Steve and Danny’s walk to the crime scene, and as Danny explains, the distance they’re walking means that they’re probably going to be working on this case for a few days. Halloween means something different for the two men, and Steve figures out that Grace has plans that don’t involve her father. The good news is that Danny does have plans with Charlie — if this case doesn’t interfere with them.

Hawaii Five-0 season 6 airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
