Russell Brand Slams Ex-Wife Katy Perry As ‘Vapid, Vacuous Celebrity,’ But Singer Roars That She’s ‘Growing’

Russell Brand does not believe in opting for politeness over honesty. And when Russell reflects on celebrities in general and his ex-wife Katy Perry in particular, Brand lets go of any inhibitions to tell the world just how much he detested her lifestyle, reported People.

Now Russell has crafted a documentary entitled BRAND: A Second Coming. And although the comedian is known for his wit, Russell makes it clear that he’s cruelly serious about his distaste for existing in a star-studded spotlight with Katy.

“Oh my f—— God. I’m living, like, this life of the very thing I detest: vapid, vacuous celebrity,” slams Brand.

In addition, Russell shows in his new documentary that although Brand, now 40, made it clear that he was miserable with the celebrity life, Perry adored it. The documentary shows the couple making their way amidst paparazzi.

“Fame, power and money is bull—-,” proclaims Russell.

Brand is harsh in condemning what he sees as three evils, but Katy in the documentary is just as clear in emphasizing how much she adores what accompanies stardom, power, and fortune.

“I don’t want to give all this up,” Perry insists.

Katy and Russell began their relationship with romance but broke up in 2012 after being married for just more than a year. Brand informed Perry via a text message that he had decided it was time for a divorce.

But Katy and Russell have different versions of what resulted in their split. Brand blames the entertainment industry lifestyle. In contrast, Perry feels that it’s not Hollywood but Russell to blame. Brand never viewed Katy as his peer, claims the 31-year-old singer.

And her life on tour exacerbated their interpersonal problems.

“At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equalness. He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour,” explained Perry. “So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.”

But Russell feels that the real moment of truth came when Brand visited Africa, according to Grazia.

The conditions that he viewed there struck him and caused Russell to look in a different way at the world of Hollywood as well as his life in the role of husband to Katy Perry.

“That stuff in Africa hit me really hard,” explained Brand. “I’m associated with the very thing that I detest: vapid, vacuous, plastic, constructed, mindless celebrity… That’s the very sea we’re swimming in… ‘Oh who’s he? He’s married to Katy Perry.'”

The documentary also shows a friend of the comedian’s providing his thoughts on how he felt that the marriage would be short-lived, as well as Russell satirizing Katy’s accent.

Brand also is depicted in the documentary reflecting on happiness and marriage.

“It’s definitely good I’m with someone I love,” admits Russell. “And it’s also good, I suppose, that person is a pop star. But it’s not a resolution to anything spiritual. This is my suspicion, that at some point to be happy I am going to have to walk away from it.”

Brand views fame as evil, and while he credits Perry for following the right path as a pop star, he also feels that her pursuit of fame and fortune caused them to separate.

“Fame can be a very corrupting and corrosive phenomenon… I think it’s probably the right thing to pursue what she’s pursuing. I mean she’s a massive, famous pop star,” compliments Russell. “But I think that probably takes a massive amount of energy, focus and will. I think we were going in different directions.”

Now that she’s been dismissed by Brand, what does the future hold for Katy? Insiders revealed that Russell’s ex-wife plans to make time to reflect on the past. She recently modified her Twitter description so that it describes her as “growing.” And that may mean that you’re going to hear Perry roar in response to Brand.
