Adam Nimoy, Son Of ‘Star Trek’ Idol Leonard Nimoy, Stars On ‘Big Bang Theory’: Spock & Sheldon Fans Go Wild [Video]

Adam Nimoy hopes to carry on the legacy of his deceased father, Leonard Nimoy, with a big bang — literally. The son of the Star Trek legend, Adam is following in Nimoy’s footsteps by guest-starring on The Big Bang Theory this season, reported USA Today.

Taking to social media to make the announcement, The Big Bang Theory shared that the episode featuring Adam will air on November 5. Nimoy will portray himself on “The Spock Resonance.”

CBS also revealed that Wil Wheaton will co-star.

“In ‘The Spock Resonance,’ recurring guest star Wil Wheaton will appear alongside Adam, an accomplished writer and director in real life, who asks Sheldon Cooper to be in a documentary about his beloved father, Leonard. While being interviewed, Sheldon struggles to suppress his emotions about his recent break-up with Amy, despite his overwhelming excitement for the sci-fi subject matter.”

For those who missed the original Big Bang Theory episode in which Leonard Nimoy had a cameo, the Star Trek actor was more of a dreamy vision because he played the voice of a Spock action figure.

However, the Big Bang Theory also repeatedly made references to Nimoy, with a favorite game named “Rock, Paper, Scissors … Lizard, Spock.”

In addition, when Leonard passed away, the Big Bang Theory fulfilled viewers’ hopes by honoring him on the show.

Twitter exploded with excitement when CBS posted the news about Adam. Some asked if Adam would tell Sheldon that Leonard Nimoy had died, while others wondered what the star’s son might do to carry on the Star Trek actor’s legacy. But with almost 600 Favorites and more than 200 retweets, the announcement clearly met with a positive reception.

In the episode, Adam will talk with Sheldon, played by Jim Parsons, regarding the documentary Nimoy is creating about the Star Trek actor, reported the New York Daily News.

Leonard passed away at 83, and his cameo in 2012 on The Big Bang Theory remains a classic. To honor his father, Adam is doing more than guest starring on the show, however. Nimoy also is shooting his documentary. Named For the Love of Spock, the funding came partly from Kickstarter, thanks to the ever-faithful fan base of Trekkers. In addition, William Shatner, who portrayed Captain Kirk, provided a boost by tweeting encouragement regarding the documentary’s funding push.

You can watch Adam Nimoy and Star Trek: The Next Generation star Wil Wheaton on CBS at 8 pm November 5.

In their tribute to Leonard Nimoy, The Big Bang Theory aired a photo of the actor after the credits, reported Movie Pilot.

“The impact you had on our show and on our lives is everlasting,” read the caption.

Adam currently works as a director in Hollywood, so his appearance on The Big Bang Theory hoping to persuade Sheldon to be part of the documentary that will memorialize his dad has a real-life basis. The father and son actually had talked prior to Nimoy’s death about the possibility of creating a documentary focusing on Mr. Spock.

Then, when his father passed away, Adam came up with the idea of transforming the original concept to pay tribute to his dad. It’s set to unveil next year, and the Kickstarter campaign page thanks those who contributed.

As the Inquisitr reported, The Big Bang Theory‘s first Christmas episode ranks as one of its most highly regarded because of the Leonard Nimoy cameo.

“The [Leonard Nimoy] DNA napkin is such a hugely iconic moment in the show,” admitted executive producer Steve Molaro. “It’s hard to think about topping it.”

Now Adam Nimoy hopes that his guest-starring turn on the show honoring his father will provide The Big Bang Theory with another iconic moment.
