Sony and Hasbro are hooking up to make a movie based on Tonka trucks, in case you were wondering if a cinematic concept could possibly get more plotless than the film Battleship.

Hasbro’s Battleship appeared (even in trailers, which we all know deceptively make films seem far more interesting than they actually are) to be a scant hour-and-a-half of explosions, and ultimately crumpled against summer blockbuster The Avengers upon its May release.

But Hasbro hasn’t abandoned the concept of films based on a toy or game with little backstory to flesh it out. If Battleship was 90 minutes of boats blowing up, can we expect a similar length of effort involving little boys pushing toy vehicles across their mothers shoulders in the car as the tots say, “vroom, vroom?”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, polluter of film and entertainment in general Adam Sandler is involved with the project, and the board games Candyland and Risk are also going to get the “backstory that totally ruins playing the game for you” treatment.

THR got a quote from Sony president Bob Osher, who explained that the company wants to enhance kids’ imaginations by removing their ability to flesh the brands out in their own heads:

“In its 65 years, Tonka has become more than a toy or a brand; Tonka trucks are a rite of passage for kids all around the world.”

“Time spent with these toys creates memories that last a lifetime as kids are inspired to play using the boundaries of their imagination. We look forward to creating a family-friendly motion picture that brings the Tonka experience to life.”

Hasbro and Sony’s Tonka film is still in the early development stages.
