With all of the reports of Diablo III accounts being hacked, Blizzard has decided to err on the side of caution by making authenticators a requirement when adding funds to your Battle.net balance for use in the Diablo III real-money auction house.

Blizzard has yet to formerly announce a release date of Diablo III‘s real-money auction house, but the in-game notification has it pegged for launch on 6/12, which is tomorrow.

“With the introduction of the real-money auction house, account security will become more important than ever,” Blizzard community manager ‘Kaivax’ wrote in a post on the forums. “To help ensure that players have a positive experience when using the real-money auction house, we’ve made some adjustments to how players can use and access their Battle.net Balance.”

Kaivax went on to explain that not only will you need to have an authenticator to add to your balance in order to buy items in the real-money auction house, you’ll also need to have an authenticator to add funds from the sale of items to your Battle.net balanace.

“While we understand that this creates an extra step for players during the login process, we believe this added layer of account protection will help foster a safer auction house environment for all of our players,” Kaivax added.
