Over the weekend, Riot Games announced that its European League of Legends databases have been breached by hackers, and, unfortunately, some player information was taken in the process.

There is a bit of relatively good news to the League of Legends EU hack, however. Riot Games president Marc Merrill and CEO Brandon Beck said in a statement that no billing information of any kind–addresses, credit card accounts, etc.–were taken in the breach.

“The most critical data accessed included email address, encrypted account password, summoner name, date of birth, and – for a small number of players – first and last name and encrypted security question and answer,” Merrill and Beck said in the statement.

As such, Riot advises its users to change their League of Legends EU password and, if you share that password with any other account, especially PayPal and anything related to your finances, quickly change those passwords as well.

“We’ve been humbled by this experience and know that nothing guarantees the security of Internet-connected systems such as League of Legends,” Merrill and Beck wrote. “We can simply promise to try our very best to protect your data.”

It should be noted that the League of Legends database breach only affects European users, so those of you who play on the North American servers are in the clear.
