‘Downton Abbey’ Season 6 Has The Most Graphic Scene Yet At Bloody Dinner Party

Warning: If you haven’t started watching season 6 of Downton Abbey, there are spoilers ahead.

Downton Abbey has taken fans into the lives of the Crawley family over time, wars, birth, and death, but there have been some grisly moments too. The unexpected deaths of Matthew Crawley and Lady Sybil, and the rape of Anna horrified even the most hardened fan, but season 6 had a serious blood shedding event at a most unexpected time: during a formal dinner party.

As the Inquisitr reported, because it is the last season, show creator Julian Fellowes is trying to tie up as many loose ends as possible (though we still haven’t seen a resolution of the cousin Patrick Crawley story line). We will see faces from the past coming in to take their final bow, and ideas of how the characters will be spending the next decade or two, at least for those who survive. While the Dowager Countess seems to be going strong, it’s Robert who fans worry about. Will George become Lord Gratham while he is still in nappies?

Vanity Fair is sharing a gif that you won’t be able to un-see. At first it seems like a horror or zombie film has been spliced into Downton Abbey, but no. At the dinner party, Robert has suggested he is feeling unwell, but decides — in British fashion — to muddle through. Big mistake. It seems he has an undiagnosed bleeding ulcer, and well, it explodes, literally, all over Lady Cora’s finest china.

“So on Monday, when we learned that a sixth-season episode of Downton Abbey—which aired in the U.K. on Sunday—showcased a shockingly graphic scene, over the Grantham’s fine china no less, we were startled. Ahead, the GIF that makes us suspect Quentin Tarantino filled in for Julian Fellowes one day on set.”

Not only has Robert vomited all over the table, but Lady Cora is covered. Think George Bush puking at dinner in Asia, and multiply it times 10.

The Telegraph is catching fans up on what has gone down so far on season 6, and the shock of Robert’s illness seems to be the most dramatic scene so far. Making things even more shocking is the dinner guest that is witness to the blood bath.

“Last week the main talking point was the Earl of Grantham’s (Hugh Bonneville) harrowing collapse over dinner with future Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain (Rupert Frazer). Downton hasn’t been this shocking since a Turkish diplomat died in Lady Mary’s bed back in series one. In what looked more like a scene from a Quentin Tarantino movie, the Earl splattered blood over his guests when his stomach ulcer burst.”

Luckily, the local doctor and cousin Isabel, a nurse, were also at dinner to keep Robert from bleeding out or choking to death. In pure American style, Lady Cora doesn’t swoon or faint, but runs to his rescue too.

But enough about impending death; love seems to be in the air for Lady Mary and Lady Edith on Downton Abbey. Edith is encouraging the interest of a man in London, while Mary is flirting with a race car driver. Considering how her husband died, this seems to be an unlikely romance, but the heart wants what the heart wants. There has also been a downstairs wedding, and maybe a downstairs baby?

Americans will have to wait and see Downton Abbey‘s final season in January (unless you are crafty) but there is a great deal of drama that awaits. Will you be watching?
