Lamar Odom faces a long way back to his former life as a healthy and happy husband, and it looks like his family is determined to make sure he gets there. They’re also making sure that he has the chance to recover away from prying eyes as he convalesces at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. TMZ reports that the former NBA star is under constant guard while in the facility and that access to Odom is limited to a handful of medical staff.
The aforementioned celebrity gossip clearing house notes that Lamar Odom’s security team is particularly concerned with preventing sneaky paparazzi types from obtaining photos of him while he is receiving care. It’s a valid concern, given the dissemination of photos of the likes of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Rihanna, and other stars after they suffered medical emergencies. Given the abundance of cell phone cameras and stealth-like camera equipment, Odom’s security will have to remain on high alert to ensure his privacy.
Privacy is a particularly sensitive issue at Cedars-Sinai, as the hospital was at the center of a public controversy in 2013 when it was learned that a handful of staff improperly accessed patient records. According to a report by Los Angeles Times, the facility ultimately fired five workers and a student research assistant as the result of breaches. The hospital found that five of the individuals accessed the records of one particular patient and the other person looked at a total of 14 records with no appropriate basis for doing so.
Of course, it’s certainly worth noting that Lamar Odom’s sister-in-law Kim Kardashian stayed at Cedars-Sinai in 2013 when she welcomed daughter North West into the world along with North’s dad Kanye West. While Cedars-Sinai never publicly acknowledged that Kim Kardashian’s records were targeted in the above-noted breaches, sources told TMZ that the hospital did contact her to advise her that her records were indeed improperly accessed.
Lamar Odom’s situation has proven particularly irresistible for star watchers and gossip hounds, as the story has a number of intriguing twists and turns. As previously reported by Inquisitr, Odom and his wife Khloe Kardashian called it quits a while back, but they never actually finalized their divorce. Things seemed to be unraveling fast for Odom, who was accused of stalking Khloe when he accosted her at an early morning exercise class back in August.
After a steady flow of rumors that they had both moved on to new relationships, everything hit the proverbial fan earlier this month when Lamar Odom was found unconscious at a Nevada Brothel called Love Ranch. Numerous reports alleged that Odom binged on drugs and alcohol in the hours leading up to the life-threatening situation, and when Lamar was transported to the hospital, many feared that he would not survive. Khloe Kardashian and her family rushed to Lamar Odom’s bedside despite the trials and tribulations of recent months, and earlier this week it was reported that Odom and Kardashian have called off their divorce.
The flip side to their reconciliation is the reality that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians couple might have to clean up the unfinished business from Lamar Odom’s unseemly escapades at Love Ranch. According to a report by Fox News, brothel and strip club mogul Dennis Hof has publicly indicated that he may take legal action against Khloe Kardashian to collect on Odom’s $79,000 tab. There’s no love lost between Hof and Kardashian, who have sparred via the media over the course of recent weeks.
It’s a safe bet that Khloe Kardashian can cover Lamar’s debt assuming that she is willing to do so. Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Khloe has a net worth of somewhere around $25 million. Thus far, the model and reality show star has proven that she is willing to look past the various and sundry details of Lamar Odom’s sordid exploits, so covering a financial obligation here and there seems rather inconsequential in the long run. As the old saying goes, you can’t put a price on love. Unless you’re the guy at the Love Ranch, that is.
