‘Destiny’: Xur’s Exotic Goods For Oct. 23, Mid-Tier Helmets For All

Destiny players hopping into the game for the weekend will find the return of Xûr, Agent of the Nine, to the Tower. The worm-faced vendor is hiding in a back corner and has a collection of Exotic helmets for PlayStation and Xbox owners of the shooter to peruse.

Xûr can be found in the very back of the bar located underneath the Future War Cult in the hangar this weekend. It’s a long jog but easy to find. Just turn left when you enter the hanger, go down the stairs to the left, and then straight back. Here’s where you can find him on the Tower map just to be sure.

Xûr and his items will only be available in Destiny through the morning of Sunday, October 25. As soon as the clock strikes 5 a.m. ET / 2 a.m. PT, he will be gone.

It’s one of those rare Xûr visits in Destiny where he is selling the same type of armor for all three Guardian classes. The selection is decent enough, although there is no weapon on sale this week. Instead, he has an Exotic Engram for Chest Armor. It’s a good way for those at 300 Light level and above to try and grab a 310 Light level piece since the King’s Fall Hard Mode Raid is launching today.

For those wondering what to get, here are a few helpful hints.

Empyrean Bellicose

Aside from being a cool Titan looking helmet, Empyrean Bellicose has a deceptively beneficial suite of perks, even if it may not be a top-tier piece. The main perk, “Antigrav Thrusters,” allows Titans to hover in the air while aiming. The other half of that perk gives a melee recharge when picking up Orbs of Light, which synergizes well with the different Titan sub-class melee abilities.

The random perk rolls give “Inverse Shadow” in the third column with “Better Already” in the final column. The first gives bonus super energy from minion kills while the second regenerates shields on orb pickup.

The split 49 Intellect / 48 Discipline stat roll is slightly above average. Overall, this is a solid helmet for PVE activities due to its dependency on picking up Orbs of Light.

Mask of the Third Man

This is a Year two upgrade for one of the favorite Exotic helmets employed by the Bladedancer Hunter sub-class in Destiny. The primary “Unstable Current” perk will give a couple of extra swings with the Arc Blade super ability, which is still useful in Crucible even if the sub-class has fallen out of favor.

The random perk roll can’t get any better with what Xur is selling this week. It comes with “Inverse Shadow” and “Infusion.” That’s bonus super energy from killing minions, and health regeneration when picking up Orbs of Light.

The 47 Intellect / 47 Strength split stat is perfectly suited for Bladedancers. They get the super ability recharge and the melee recharge needed to go invisible with Blink Strike.

Skull of Dire Ahamkara

This is a bit of a surprise Warlock helmet for the Voidwalker sub-class. Bungie tweaked the main “Delusions of Grandeur” perk that combines reduced damage while throwing a Nova Bomb with improved Siphon abilities. The energy drain ability now lasts approximately 11 seconds, which in turn means faster grenade energy restoration.

The Skull of Ahamkara may have a big draw in the current Crucible meta that features powerful new super abilities from the Titan Sunbreaker and Warlock Stormcaller sub-classes. The “Delusions of Grandeur” perk allows a player to survive a direct hit from a Sunbreaker hammer and the initial shock of the Stormcaller. That’s just enough time to counter with a Nova Bomb.

As long as you have other pieces that bump up Intellect, the 79 Strength stat roll is solid for the Skull of Dire Ahamkara. It synergizes well with the “Hands On” perk that gives bonus Super energy from melee kills.
