According to Athens-Clarke County police, the mystery bandit stole six cases of toothpicks worth approximately $3,000 from Armond’s Manufacturing Company Inc. about two weeks ago, and an additional seven cases last weekend.

Per the police report, each case contained 288 packages of 100 toothpicks, which brings the total number of plundered picks to 374,400.

While police have yet to make any arrests in the case, they say there were no signs of forced entry at the plant, leading them to believe that an employee or former employee of the toothpick manufacturer was involved in the heist.

The Athens Banner-Herald adds that two current employees of Armond’s reported seeing a man walking around selling containers of the missing toothpicks at a local flea market.

The employees could only describe the toothpick hawker as a Hispanic man, police said, and the business owner told officers that the man at the flea market may have gotten the contraband from current or former employees.
