Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Dez Bryant’s Status For Sunday And Cowboys Starting Running Back Against Giants

The Dallas Cowboys are through their bye week now and preparing for their upcoming game against the New York Giants. Now, practice has begun for Week 7, and many are wondering if wide receiver Dez Bryant will be returning to the line-up and play, and an update was given on his status for Sunday. In the meantime, it looks as if the Cowboys are also going to have a new starter at running back in Christine Michael.

For weeks now, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been optimistic that Bryant would be healed enough and ready to play after the team’s bye week. Sure, the timetable for his return from a broken bone in his foot had him out much longer, but anything is possible.

On Wednesday, 247 Sports reported that Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said Bryant was not expected to take part in any team drills this week. He did do a little rehab conditioning on the field last Thursday, but it’s not time for him to get into team practices yet.

“We don’t anticipate much from him in the formal team setting. He’s working on the side. And if he can work in, he’ll work in. We’ll see how he does with that work and give him more if he can. He’s a day-by-day guy and we’ll evaluate it as we go.”

This doesn’t mean Dez Bryant is ruled out of practice or even the game against the Giants on Sunday. Just nine days after surgery, Bryant was walking on his injured foot without any type of brace, but Garrett says there is a lot that goes into whether he’s ready to play or not.

“It’s as simple as, is he ready to play physically? nd there’s a lot of different ways to evaluate that. He’s obviously the one who will have the biggest say in it based on how he’s feeling with the work we give him. We’ll observe him as well, we’ll observe him as coaches, we’ll observe him as medical people and just see where he is and we’ll make our best judgement for him and for our team.”

Fans are very hopeful that Bryant will be able to play and so are the Cowboys. Dallas has gone 1-3 since the wide receiver has been sidelined. They’ve gone 0-3 since Tony Romo went out with an injury, and he’s now rumored to be coming back in late November.

There’s a chance Bryant’s game status won’t be officially known until the injury report comes out on Friday. Even then, the Cowboys may list him as a game-time decision at that point and leave the Giants wondering.

On another note, it does appear as if a big change is coming on the offense whether Dez Bryant returns or not, and it’s at the running back position.

After a lack of production and drawing the anger of numerous coaches to some of his on-field actions, Joseph Randle isn’t being seen as the running back to lead the Cowboys right now. Christine Michael has been getting a number of first-team reps for Dallas, according to Sports World Report.

While a firm decision has not yet been made on who will start at running back, it certainly appears as if one of the newest Cowboys will get the nod. Both Michael and Randle will get playing time, as will Darren McFadden, but it currently looks like Michael is on his way to starting against the Giants.

It’s already known that Matt Cassel will be starting for the Dallas Cowboys at quarterback in replacing Brandon Weeden, who went 0-3. Now, it looks like Christine Michael could be in at running back, and Dez Bryant may very well be returning from injury, but a lot can happen between practice and the game.
