WWE News: ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin Responds To Criticism Over His Brock Lesnar Interview

This past Monday, WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin interviewed former WWE and UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar on the Stone Cold Podcast, which was one of the most highly anticipated podcasts in the short history of the WWE Network.

Before the podcast, some fans thought that the purpose of the interview was to further promote a potential match between Austin and Lesnar at WrestleMania 32, which was originally brought up this past June when Austin interviewed Lesnar’s advocate Paul Heyman.

Since the Heyman podcast, Austin has continually denied that he’s coming back to wrestle next year in Dallas. However, some people didn’t take him at his word and thought that he was just working the fans.

Stone Cold vs Brock Lesnar
Before the podcast, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted that if fans are expecting Lesnar and Austin to announce a match on the podcast, then they haven’t been paying attention to anything Austin has said over the last couple of months and that they’re going to be disappointed when the podcast is over.

“I know that there are people who absolutely believe that everything [that Austin has said] is a work, and that the only answer to Brock vs. Undertaker doing this match this week would be that they have a bigger match [for WrestleMania] and the only bigger match would be Austin vs. Brock. But, if the fans are disappointed when this match doesn’t get made, then they didn’t listen to Austin.”

Now that the podcast is over, it’s clear that Steve Austin won’t be wrestling Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 32, as the match wasn’t even talked about, and that has left a lot of people disappointed. But, that was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to the fans’ complaints after the podcast concluded.

One of the big criticisms of the podcast is based around the first 15 minutes of the show, where Austin asked Lesnar a series of questions that had nothing to do with his wrestling career and were more centered around hunting, what guns Lesnar likes, what Lesnar likes to eat, and what kind of truck Lesnar drives. In fact, there’s a whole message board on F4WOnline that’s pretty much dedicated to ripping the first quarter of the show.

The one major criticism of the show came after Lesnar told Austin that he looks at being a pro wrestler as a job. He clocks in, he clocks out, and he’s not really looking to make any friends or be completely entrenched in the business. Basically, Lesnar confirmed what every fan has been speculating for a while, which is that he doesn’t really care about pro wrestling and that he just looks at it as a way to make money, just like any other job.

After thanking the fans on Twitter for all of their feedback, both negative and positive, Austin was asked how he could be friendly with a guy like Lesnar, who pretty much blatantly disrespects the business that Austin loves. You can see Austin’s response below.

There were things that people liked about the show, as Lesnar did share some interesting stories about his early days in WWE back in 2002, 2003, and 2004. He showed a ton of respect for The Rock, Mr. Perfect, and the Big Boss Man, who, as Lesnar said, were three guys who really helped him out in his early days. He also noted that he used to ride up and down the roads with Undertaker and Kane early on and that he would even pump gas for them.

Lesnar talked about ending Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak, saying that he was the only guy in the WWE locker room who had the credentials to do so.

He also said that he lets Paul Heyman do all the talking for him because “apparently I’m not good at promos.” So, if you’re wondering why Brock Lesnar never talks, there you go.
