Beast Mode Frappuccino: See What Makes Marshawn Lynch’s New Starbucks Drink More Than Your Typical Coffee

Football and coffee might not seem like the most likely combination, but a new Beast Mode Frappuccino created by Marshawn Lynch at the world’s largest coffee chain seeks to join together the two fandoms for a good cause.

Those looking to mix up their autumn Pumpkin Spice binge will be happy to know that the Beast Mode Frappuccino comes from the other side of the palate. Ushering in Christmas spirit early, the new drink will consist of a minty, creamy double mocha Frappuccino complemented by berry syrup and a dash of fine green tea matcha, stated the company press release.

Still think the Beast Mode Frappuccino is lacking a firm link to the sports world? The secret ingredient in the mix is a healthy dose of protein powder, making it a comparably athletic choice among the temptations lining the Starbucks pastry case. Even the athlete, who clearly knows his way around building some muscle, gave his approval for the drink as a pre-gym snack.

“I’d drink this before a workout. You could get your buff on with this.”

As previously stated, the Beast Mode Frappuccino also comes with a charitable aspect. From each sale of the drink, 24 cents will be donated to the Fam1st Family Foundation. The organization was founded by Buffalo Bills quarterback Joshua Johnson. In the non-profit’s mission statement, they outline the goal of the group as to “empower and educate, aiming to build self-esteem and academic learning skills in underprivileged youth.”

Beast Mode became an affectionate name for the Seahawks player due to his focused attack mode on the field and also for his brusque interactions with the public. Listening to Lynch describe the way he describes getting into this state of mind, it’s hard to imagine him in the Starbucks lab cooking up a frappuccino. You can watch him talk through one of the moments that earned him the Beast Mode nickname in the video below.

Though far from the world of corporate frappuccinos, Lynch’s nickname made another cultural crossover in April this year. Rapper Ludacris recorded a song and video called “Beast Mode” which heavily featured the football player. The video’s opening, featuring several invasive, poorly researched questions from sports journalists, spoofed Lynch’s reputations for being curt and direct with the press. Ludacris plucked the now infamous line that Marshawn used when going through the motions of Super Bowl interviews.

“I’m just here so I don’t get fined. So you all can sit here and ask me the questions you all want to, I’m going to answer with the same answer. So, y’all can shoot, if y’all please. I’m here so I won’t get fined.”

Unfortunately, for Seattle Seahawks fans across the nation, this limited edition frappuccino will only be available in a few select areas. Of course, Seattle, where the original Starbucks location can be found at Pike’s Market, is one of them. Additionally, the Beast Mode will be sold at select Starbucks in Oakland, California. Born in the California city, Lynch was a four-sport all-star at his local high school in track, basketball, wrestling and, of course, football. He went on to play for University of California, Berkley, before being drafted to the Buffalo Bills in 2007. Marshawn became a member of the Seahawks in 2011.
