‘The Big Bang Theory’ Spoilers: Fatherly Character To Finally Be Introduced?

Over the course of The Big Bang Theory’s nine season run, we’ve been introduced to plenty of the characters’ mothers and fathers. But there’s one father we’ve yet to meet, and that’s Howard Wolowitz’s dad. Simon Helberg, who plays Howard on The Big Bang Theory, wants that to change, though.

Speaking to The Press Association via MSN, Simon Helberg explained that he really believes that the show and his character could benefit from finally meeting Howard’s father.

Helberg explained, “I think it would be nice to potentially meet his dad. I like it when the writers get deep because it’s hard to do that on a sitcom without hearing the cheesy violin or having that special episode felling, and they do it so well and I love getting to learn about this character I’ve played and know for over seven years, and getting to discover things I never knew.”

We don’t really know too much about Howard’s father. And what we do know isn’t that great. The Big Bang Theory has previously informed us that Sam Wolowitz left Howard and his wife Debbie, Howard’s mother, when Howard was just 11-years-old.

Since then, Howard has never seen him again, while he has been sporadically mentioned throughout the show’s run.

However, even though Helberg teased that he’d love to see the introduction of Sam Wolowitz, he also admitted that he doesn’t really have any power on the show to make that happen.

Helberg explained, “I don’t write the show, I don’t create any of those aspects so I get a script, open it and find out his dad abandoned him. It’s interesting. I can’t wait to see what they’ve got for us.”

There’s another rather big reason why now might be the perfect time for Howard Wolowitz to finally meet his father. That’s because, last season, The Big Bang Theory emotionally dealt with the death of Howard’s mother, Debbie.

Howard learned that she had passed away in her sleep, and he was then instantly consoled by his close-knit group of friends, which includes Johnny Galecki’s Leonard Hofstadter, Jim Parsons’ Sheldon Cooper, Kaley Cuoco’s Penny, Kunal Nayyar’s Rajesh Koothrappali, Melissa Rauch’s Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, and Mayim Bialik’s Amy Farrah Fowler.

The character’s untimely passing came just a few months after Carol Ann Susi, the actress who had provided the voice of Howard’s mother throughout the show’s run, but had never actually been seen on camera, died on November 11, 2014, following a battle with cancer.

Meanwhile, the tension between Penny and Bernadette gives Amy a chance to play both sides, on THE BIG BANG THEORY, Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. The Big Bang Theory has introduced us to many of the characters’ parents during its tenure. We’ve learned how Leonard’s mother, Beverly (Christine Baranski), didn’t nurture her son when he was growing up, while we know that Sheldon’s mother, Mary (Laurie Metcalf), is a devout Christian who raised Sheldon and his twin sister by herself following the death of her husband and their father when they were just 14.

Meanwhile, we’ve also seen Penny’s father, played by Keith Carradine, Rajesh’s parents (Brian George and Alice Amter) that he regularly talks to over Skype, as well as Bernadette’s tough father, Mike, a retired police officer portrayed by Casey Sander.

In fact, there has previously been speculation over who might portray Penny’s mother on The Big Bang Theory, with both Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco insisting that Lisa Kudrow would be perfect for the role.

Earlier this year via UPI, Parson explained, “I’ve always thought about [Kudrow] for the show. I don’t know in what part. I’ll leave that to the writers, but I just am a big fan of hers and I would love them to have her on.”

This came after Kaley Cuoco told TVLine back in 2014, “I don’t know what they’re going to do, but I have always thought — and I hope this doesn’t offend her because I know she’s super young, though we know Penny’s mom got knocked up very early – that Lisa Kudrow would be so perfect. I’ve said that for years. I think it would be hilarious, plus I’m a huge fan of hers, so it’s a selfish wish.”
