Overkill Isn’t Working On A Left 4 Dead Prequel, Valve Says

Last month, Payday: The Heist developer Overkill announced that it has teamed up with Valve to work on a collaboration, causing some to speculate that Overkill may be working on something related to Valve’s Left 4 Dead franchise.

Speculation over Overkill’s mysterious collaboration with Valve heated up when CVG posted a rumor yesterday that Overkill’s project is actually a prequel to Left 4 Dead. But according to Valve’s Chet Faliszek, that isn’t happening.

“I want to make sure that people don’t think the prequel is coming,” Faliszek told PCGamesN in an interview at E3 (via VG247). “Those guys are still making Payday: The Heist, we’re still making Left 4 Dead. We’re trying to be a little coy and a little fun because we want the communities to discover the collaboration for themselves.”

In its announcement last month, Overkill described the collaboration with Valve as “a very cool blend of PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead.” We don’t know anything beyond that, but at least now we know it isn’t going to be a Left 4 Dead prequel.

Personally, I’m hoping it’s some sort of hybrid between the two. What’s better than playing as bank robbers? Playing as zombie bank robbers!
