Final ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Poster Debuts, But Where Is Luke?
The official one-sheet poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally here, with just two months left until the movie itself is set to hit theaters. The poster is classic Star Wars all over, but it leaves us with one huge question: where is Luke Skywalker?
You may recall a handful of other Star Wars: The Force Awakens posters, including the teaser we saw last year and the promo item that D23 attendees received last August. Some outlets, including the Verge, initially reported that the D23 promo poster was the real deal.
However, it was soon revealed that while the D23 promo piece was the work of Drew Struzan, the artist responsible for previous Star Wars posters, it wasn’t actually the official movie poster for The Force Awakens.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the new poster for The Force Awakens that showed up online today is, in fact, the official one-sheet that will replace the simple title logo posters you may have seen hanging in movie theater lobbies. The composition of the new The Force Awakens poster provides some tantalizing clues about the upcoming movie, but it also leaves us with some questions.
At the center of the new poster, we see three familiar faces: Harrison Ford’s Han Solo, Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia, and everyone’s favorite hirsute co-pilot, Chewbacca.
The poster features new characters Kylo Ren, Rey, and Finn much more prominently, with Finn wielding the same blue lightsaber that we saw in the D23 promo poster last August.Looming behind them all, we see what Entertainment Weekly calls another massive weapon akin to the Death Star.
The poster is rounded out by some storm troopers, pilot Poe Dameron, droids R2-D2, C3-P0, and BB-8, and a new character Entertainment Weekly guesses might be the pirate Maz Kanata, as portrayed by Lupita Nyong’o.
Conspicuously absent from the official Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster is one of the most pivotal characters from the original trilogy.
We know that Mark Hamill is in The Force Awakens, so why is Luke Skywalker absent from the poster? Some fans have come to the worrying conclusion that it means Hamill’s role in the film is so small that putting Luke on the poster wouldn’t make sense.
after seeing the new #TheForceAwakens poster i am more and more thinking that luke might be dead and he is only in a flashback at most

Others have argued that there must be some other significance to the snub.
If there is a valid, spoiler-ish reason for Luke being omitted from the official #TheForceAwakens poster, I’m all for it.

Then there’s the question of the lightsaber Finn wields on the poster, which once belonged to Luke — before he lost it.

Luke’s absence from the new The Force Awakens poster will probably become clear when the movie hits theaters in two months, whether it’s because he’s dead, barely in the movie, or some significantly more interesting reason.
Of course, the release of the next trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is imminent, and it could definitely shine some light on the situation. As previously reported by Inquisitr, the new trailer is set for a big reveal during Monday Night Football halftime on October 19.
What sort of significance do you think there is to Luke’s absence from the official Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster?
