Lamar Odom Update: Former NBA Star Reportedly Being Weaned Off Life Support — What Did He Say To Khloe Kardashian?

Former NBA star Lamar Odom is now able to breathe on his own as of Friday afternoon, and has not only opened his eyes but is said to have spoken with estranged wife Khloe Kardashian.

UPDATE: Neither the Kardashians nor doctors have confirmed any of the following information. So far, it is merely coming from different sources close to the situation.

According to US Weekly, Odom has indeed opened his eyes after being unconscious since Tuesday when he was found in a brothel and rushed to the hospital. He has been in critical condition for the last 72 hours and some wondered if he would ever wake up.

ABC News has reported that they are not sure how long his eyes were open, and rumors are going around that he actually looked at Kardashian and said “good morning” or “Hey baby.” Conflicting reports are being passed around social media of what he said or if he even really spoke at all.

TMZ is saying that Odom is able to breathe on his own and he’s being weaned off life support. He’s breathing with a mask now and not a ventilator as doctors continue to try and get him functioning on his own.

The mask is said to have been used as a test to see how he would react to breathing on his own, but will be placing him back on the ventilator. Doctors intend to go back and forth between the ventilator and breathing mask to see if he’ll be able to function and breathe without the help of heavy life support.

His heart is showing some signs of improvement, but he isn’t out of the woods just yet and doctors are still continuously watching him.

It has been a very rough and scary week for Lamar Odom who was originally said to be in a dire situation and that he may never recover. While his current health status may have him in a condition that is critical, some improvement is a good thing and a very positive sign.

Earlier this week, former longtime teammate Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers had rushed to be at Odom’s side in the hospital. Bryant hasn’t said much of anything regarding the situation, but broke his silence on Thursday afternoon with a tweet.

The Mirror is indeed reporting that Odom not only is being weaned off life support, but that he woke up, looked at Khloe Kardashian, and said, “Hey, baby.” She has been at his side in the hospital for days now, and it is said that he gave a thumbs up gesture before falling back asleep.

Even with the good signs of speaking, movement, opening his eyes, and breathing on his own, it is possible that Lamar Odom has suffered severe physical and mental damage. All of that will be known in more detail after doctors know if he’s going to make it through his current situation.

Entertainment Tonight is saying that when Odom was awake, he was asked if he’d like to see his children and he communicated “yes.” It is not known how the communication was done, but he did somehow convey that message.

Odom has two children with ex-girlfriend Liza Morales — 13-year-old Lamar Odom Jr. and 17-year-old Destiny. On Thursday, the children broke their silence in a statement.

“Thanks for your outpouring of prayers and support for our dad. We are here with our family and friends. We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy at this time. We ask for your continued prayers.”

Lamar Odom ended up at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after being found at a brothel called the Love Ranch. He allegedly spent $75,000 during a four-day stay there, but opening his eyes, speaking, and being weaned off life support is all that matters right now for the former NBA star.
