David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, starring Robert Pattinson just got a U.S release date – August 17.

Already released in France, Cosmopolis will open in the U.S just over two months after its debut in Canada on June 8 and June 15 in the UK.

The film will open in New York and LA first before being rolled out into additional markets.

Based on Don DeLillo’s titular novel, Cosmopolis follows billionaire wunderkind Eric Packer – played by Pattinson – for 24, unravelling hours as he faces his fears and obsessions, and the attentions of a faceless would-be assassin.

Entertainment One Films locked up distribution rights to the film just before the Cannes Film Festival, where it debuted in competition on May 25.

Screened to critics at the festival, reviews spanned from mixed to unequivocally positive. The majority of these were wowed by Pattinson’s performance, sometimes beyond the scope of the film itself.

Filmoria’s Chris Haydon verdict: “ The film’s true driving force (excuse the pun) is Pattinson’s utterly fearless, audacious and sizzling performance.”

Indiewire’s Simon Abrams hailed Cosmopolis’ “insanely rich and maddeningly complex” scenarios,” a “triumph.”

The Guardian’s Xan Brooks said he was “blown away by Cosmopolis at Cannes. A film of cool, diamond brilliance. Perfectly fitted, a tale for the times.”

Previously considered by some to be an unlikely pairing, the 70 year-old veteran director and Pattinson have to all intents and purposes formed a riotous twosome, evident on the recent short European Cosmopolis press junket that saw premieres in Lisbon, Paris, Berlin, London and Toronto – where the film was shot last year.
