‘Shadowhunters’ Releases First TV Tease For The New ABC Family Series [Video]

Shadowhunters, the new TV series based on the popular book series written by Cassandra Clare, has been teasing fans for some time now after it was announced that ABC Family would pick up the series following the major motion picture flop. The first Shadowhunters TV teaser has finally dropped, and there has been quite the mixed reaction to it.

For those of you who didn’t know, Shadowhunters is the second attempt to bring Cassandra Clare’s book series to life. The first attempt was done by Harald Zwart, who directed the movie adaptation of Clare’s first book in the series, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The movie had high hopes of becoming the next big series but ended up being quite the box office bust. While the movie brought in an impressive $90,565,421 worldwide, there wasn’t enough interest to keep the series alive on the big screen.

There was, however, a large enough fan base to spark outcries to bring the series back to life, considering there is so much more to the Shadowhunter world then what could be shown in the first movie.

A little background for those who aren’t familiar with the series. Shadowhunters come from a world created by Cassandra Clare, a writer of young adult, fantasy fiction novels with multiple best-selling books. The world of the Shadowhunters consists of almost everything a fantasy reader is looking for. Magic, demons, angels, and, yes, even vampires and werewolves for those still stuck in the Twilight generation. Where many authors try to glamorize these mysterious creatures, Clare brings them to life in a more natural way. In her world, they are the dark creatures most legends talk about.

In the world of the Shadowhunters, there are two main species of sorts. You have the human-angel hybrids, aka the Shadowhunters, and the Downworlders. The Downworlders are made up of all things demonic: vampires, werewolves, warlocks, and faeries, and, of course, other creatures simply known as the demons.

At the beginning of the series, fans get to know a young girl by the name of Clary Fray. Some strange things are happening with her as she explores her world simply as a young adult trying to make her way through her everyday life. Things start to get a little fishy once she starts seeing weird symbols and strange creatures in her everyday life, things that were never there before. Just before she starts to think she is crazy, we meet Jace Wayland, who she later learns to be a Shadowhunter.

That’s all that can really be said about the series without spoiling it for those who haven’t read the books or watched the City of Bones movie. What happens after Clary learns about the shadow world becomes the basis of the new ABC Family series.

According to J-14, Shadowhunters the TV series is expected to be released early 2016 and fans have only recently gotten a look into the newly recreated world thanks to the release of the first TV teaser. And while the movie may have been a bit of a flop, it looks like there is enough fan-induced excitement to create a bit of a buzz around the new series.

While the new Shadowhunters series is set to start from the very beginning in order to give it a clean slate, many are wondering if the show will be able to hold its own considering fans simply fell in love with the original cast of the movie.

Fans spoke loud and clear all over social media regarding this issue considering the TV series has an entirely new cast playing their beloved characters. And while the majority seemed upset by the decision to not recast the actors from the movie, it seems as if the hype has died down and fans simply are excited to see the Shadowhunter’s world come to life once more.
