‘The Affair’ Brings In More Viewers With Season 2, Plus Which ‘Sex And The City’ Star Is Joining The Cast?

With the second season of The Affair now up and running, fans will be excited to learn that the viewership statistics for the premiere episode have officially been released. According to Variety, the numbers are a good sign, as the Showtime series has managed to bring even more viewers than last year’s premiere.

In fact, although the Season 1 premiere brought in an average of some 507,000 viewers, the Season 2 premiere managed to increase that number to 815,000. In total, some 1.05 million people tuned into the season premiere, which is up around 30 percent from the previous year.

While this number is a good increase from last year’s numbers, it does not account for online viewers. Adding in the 485,000 people who viewed the episode on Showtime’s on-demand and other platforms, the numbers for the season opener increase even more. Taken all together, these viewership numbers indicate that the opening of Season 2 was definitely a success for the series.

These numbers are very encouraging for the series as it enters its second season. With the show competing against a number of hit shows on Sunday night, such as The Walking Dead, it will interesting to see if the show is able to top its average of 4.14 million viewers last year.

Meanwhile, with the show’s second season just beginning to get underway, fans can expect to see a number of exciting new faces this season. In fact, The Affair is getting ready to add a veteran actress in Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) as a guest star for Season 2.

According to the New York Post, Nixon is set to play a character named Marilyn Sanders in the series. Sanders is a therapist working out of Manhattan who has a reputation for being forward and assertive with her clients. Naturally, given the plot of the show, Sanders will be guiding Noah (Dominic West) and Alison (Ruth Wilson) as they attempt to work through their broken marriage.

Although she will be counseling one of the main couples in the series, it still isn’t clear what part of the timeline she will appear in. The opening episode featured a number of new developments, including Noah and Alison working through their divorce and Noah being questioned by detectives. With that said, it isn’t clear when Noah and Alison seek help for their marriage, though it likely happened before Noah’s arrest.

Additionally, the show has already added additional perspectives this season, including that of Helen (Maura Tierney). With that in mind, it will be interesting to see which point of view Nixon’s character will be seen through.

Hopefully, the series shows us the therapy sessions through both Noah and Alison’s eyes, which would definitely offer an intriguing insight into their troubled relationship. Either way, her addition to plot line will be an interesting development as Noah and Alison’s relationship is just about beyond repair.

Meanwhile, Nixon’s appearance on the show will also add another level of depth, as the actress has plenty of experience in numerous television roles. Along with her role in Sex and the City, Nixon has also been involved in The Big C, Alpha House, and Hannibal. Further, the actress was most recently in The Adderall Diaries, starring alongside James Franco.

At the same time, the show has yet to announce which episode Nixon will appear in. Hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later, as fans will undoubtedly be eager to see her inclusion in the Showtime series.

Fans can watch all the drama unfold as The Affair continues its second season on Showtime on Sunday nights.
