Air France Airbus 330-200 missing over the Atlantic

An Air France Airbus 330-200 flight from Brazil to Paris has gone “missing” over the Atlantic.

The aircraft left Rio de Janeiro on Sunday at 7 p.m. local time and was expected in Paris on Monday at 11:15 a.m. (0915 GMT), a spokesman said, with 216 passengers and 12 crew on board, including three pilots.

The Brazilian Airforce have confirmed that the flight is missing, and is currently undertaking a search for the flight. There is an off chance that the planes transponders failed, but this late in, and with no contact, it’s unlikely.

The official word at the time of writing is that the flight is “missing” but we apologize in advance should the status change in the mean time.

God speed for all those on board. More when we have it.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed by Air France and Brazilian military that the missing Air France flight has crashed into the Atlantic. Rescue efforts are underway.
