Sam Smith Is Still Single — But Could That Help His New Album? Release Date Revealed

Pop star Sam Smith recently found another swell of success after his new theme song for the James Bond film Spectretopped the charts. But despite his good fortune in the music industry, the In the Lonely Hour singer reportedly remains in that lonely hour.

According to the Indian Express, Sam Smith is “still very single,” having recently split from a short-lived relationship with Jonathan Zeizel, an American dancer who appeared in one of his music videos. Sam Smith claims he’s now focusing all his energy on his friends and family, which coincides with his announcement earlier this year that he’d be taking a brief hiatus from music to spend more time with his parents.

“At the moment I’m trying to hang on to a relationship with me and my family and my friends,” Sam Smith revealed. “Once I’ve got into the routine of this life, which maybe I’m still trying to get into that cruise-control with, then I think maybe I can introduce a guy. I’m still very single.”

Though Sam Smith has a wealth of adoring fans, finding long-term love has never been easy for the singer. His critically acclaimed debut album In the Lonely Hour was largely about a case of unrequited love between Sam Smith and another unidentified straight man. While his brief coupling with a dancer he met on the set of a video was exciting, Smith claims the relationship seemed more serious than it was, according to the Daily Mail.

“I made a mistake by posting pictures of us on Instagram and making it seem more serious than it was. I’ve learned that I need to hold off before I start getting the public involved.”

While balancing his success with personal relationships has been difficult, Sam Smith actually claims he’s glad he never found love before hitting it big as a pop star. He believes if he’d experienced a normal romance without the overflow of media attention, he would probably pine for that simplicity after breaking out into the music world.

“I’m trying my best,” Sam Smith said. “There’s different challenges. The blessing for me is that I didn’t have a boyfriend before I got well known so I didn’t know any different. If I’d been in a relationship before I got well known I think I’d be a bit more upset.”

Fans may be upset that Sam Smith is taking time away from music to rekindle the relationships he does have, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t planning any new releases. According to Xpose, Sam Smith is planning to release his highly anticipated sophomore album in about a year. In fact, most of the time he’s taking away from touring will be devoted to writing and recording the new record.

“I’m not going away for a very long time. I’ve heard some people say that I’m not making an album for a long while but that is false. I’m already writing my album. I’ve got the title and I’ve got two songs I’m absolutely in love with. I’m a songwriter and an artist and I think and breathe my second record every day of my life.”

Despite how many people are dying to get their hands on a new Sam Smith release, the singer claims he’s intentionally waiting a bit before cranking out more songs. He says that both he and the music industry would grow tired of Sam Smith if there were new songs appearing every week.

“I will bring my album out in the next year or so, but it’s not going to be immediate because I think people are going to get sick of me if I brought an album out next week,” Sam Smith said.
