One Direction Single Title Release Not So ‘Perfect’ After Apple Music Goof

As every One Direction fan knows by now, the title of the boy-band’s next single will be “Perfect.” The title and release date of the fifth One Direction album was released a few weeks ago to the huge excitement of One Direction fans. Since the release date, November 13, was made public, excitement has been building, partly because Made In The A.M. is to be released on the same day as Justin Bieber’s new release. One Direction fans and fans of Canadian singer Bieber look set for a huge face off as they try to push their favorites to No. 1 in the week of release.

Last week, the Guardian reported that Justin Bieber was less than impressed that One Direction chose to release their new album on the same date as his new offering, to be titled Purpose. Bieber announced the title of his album by sharing a picture of the title tattooed on his stomach.

In an interview with new Zealand radio show Smash!, Bieber claimed that One Direction chose to release their album on the date already chosen by him to generate more press interest in their own release.

“They’re not really going on the road much, but we’re talking about them right now, so it gives them some promo, right? So, that’s probably why they did it … I think it was strategy on their part because my release date was first. But whatever. It’s going to be fun. I’m excited to see what happens.”

Whether One Direction chose November 13 to release their album for the reasons Bieber suspects or not is open to debate. It does set up a face-off reminiscent of the great Brit-pop rivalry between Blur and Oasis back in the 1990s.

One Direction’s “Perfect” will be the second single to be released from their new disc, and it is available from this Friday, October 16. Reality Box claims that One Direction had intended to keep the title of the single and the track listing for Made In The A.M. secret for a little longer, but they were forced into an early announcement after a goof by Apple Music.

Apparently, Apple’s online streaming service displayed the new single, its artwork, and One Direction’s album track listing by mistake last week, and as a result, One Direction decided to release the details via Snapchat. It is believed that this is the first time that an album release announcement has been made on the relatively new social media platform.

One Direction star Harry Styles is well known for posting enigmatic messages on his Twitter feed, but One Direction fans are not easily fooled. Harry had posted a series of tweets making reference to angels in the days before the album track list announcement was made. One Direction fans had already guessed that the posts were lyrics from a new song, and it turns out that the first track on the album is called “Hey Angel.”

Whilst it is claimed that it was a mistake by Apple that led to the early announcement by One Direction, other commentators believe that the announcement was a response to Bieber releasing an image of his album cover, featuring a picture of him shirtless, the previous day.

Only the artists know the true reasons for the timing of the album releases and the associated information, but one thing is for sure. We are set for a right royal dust-up between Justin Bieber and One Direction when their respective albums hit the shelves in just over four weeks time.
