Jim Carrey Carries Coffin Of Late Girlfriend, Posts Message Of Love On Twitter

Actor/comedian Jim Carrey said his “goodbyes” in person at the funeral of his former girlfriend, Cathriona White, in Ireland on Saturday. He honored her by helping family and friends carry her coffin, according to People. Carrey was said to have arrived in Ireland on Friday just ahead of the wake for White.

Jim and Cathriona had an on again, off again relationship. They had recently gone through a break up when White was found dead of an apparent suicide on September 28. It was presumed that White, who was twenty-three years younger than Carrey, died of an intentional overdose as multiple pill bottles and several suicide notes, including one reportedly addressed to Carrey, were found in her home.

In a touching Twitter post, following White’s funeral, Carrey expressed an undying love for Cathriona.

Carrey’s Twitter post punctuates his sentiments expressed through a statement Jim released shortly after Cathriona’s death.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona,” Carrey had noted. “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Fellow funeral goers stated that Jim Carrey was visibly upset during the service for but that Cathriona White’s family seemed genuinely thankful for Carrey’s support. According to an earlier report by TMZ, Carrey covered the cost of the White family’s travel expenses to Los Angeles following her death.

Carrey and White met in 2012, according to Us Magazine, shortly after Jim’s break up with long-term girlfriend Jenny McCarthy. Though Carrey and White broke up after a mere few months of dating, Jim Carrey and Cathriona White circled back to each other again and seemed happily attached until mid-September. It’s not known when or why Carrey and White ended their relationship.

It was revealed after Cathriona’s death that she was legally married to another man at the time she was dating Jim Carrey.

Much like Carrey’s love life, Jim’s career has recently been a series of hits and misses. Many fans were excited for last year’s Dumb and Dumber sequel but it came with mixed reviews and only moderate success at the box office. Carrey’s previous flops of Kick-Ass 2 and Mr. Popper’s Penguins seemed to bring into question whether the Golden Globe winning actor’s career was fizzling out.

While Carrey fans are hopeful next year’s The Bad Batch, in which he co-stars with Keanu Reeves, can get his career back on track, many are currently staying focused on helping Jim Carrey heal from the devastation of losing Cathriona. Fans of Carrey took to Twitter to issue multiple tweets of support as Jim takes the time to heal.

Not everyone was supportive of Carrey and White’s relationship, however. White’s best friend — and the person who discovered Cathriona White’s body — Jenny Burpee, recently discussed Carrey’s fluctuating temperament and the toll it took on White. “Even when he was ranting and raving, she would be so calm, so compassionate, and I always wondered, how did she do it? But that’s Jim Carrey — his emotions are ever-fluctuating,” Burpee told the Irish Daily Star.

Burpee also stated that she would need to discuss with Carrey some things that White had confided in her in order to seek her own resolution to White’s death.
