Mark-Paul Gosselaar, AKA Zack Morris, Calls ‘Saved By The Bell’ Hokey

Mark-Paul Gosselaar may be starring on the show Franklin Bash, but he’ll always be remembered as Zach Morris from Saved By The Bell. But Gosselaar isn’t exactly sure why. The actor recently said that he was a little surprised by the popularity of Saved By The Bell, since it is, you know, “not a great show.”

Gosselaar said:

“It’s not a great show… The writing is kind of hokey… it’s very much a piece of that time.”

The actor said that he was also surprised by the show’s popularity since it really didn’t become a cult hit until after the show went into syndication. Gosselaar said:

“We just thought we were doing a small little Saturday morning show and no one was watching… We were almost canceled every season. So we never got big heads.”

But Mark-Paul Gosselaar doesn’t regret starring on the hit show. It was his first major role and taught him a lot about the acting business.

“It taught me to have a strong work ethic, and to take it very seriously. Even though we had fun, the one thing the producers instilled in us is that this is a business. You can still have all your fun, but you have to do your job, and then you can reap all the benefits at the end.”

Do you think Saved By the Bell was hokey?
