‘Jessica Jones’ Trailer Finally Reveals Character’s Face, Powers

Jessica Jones is the latest original content show from Netflix, and it just released its newest trailer. Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter as a superhero, who is part of the Marvel Comics universe. In addition to last year’s Netflix superhero show, Daredevil, Jessica Jones is a show that will set up a miniseries involving a group of superheroes called The Defenders.

The most recent trailer for the show Jessica Jones is titled “Evening Stroll” and according to Yahoo News, it involves the titular character, Jessica Jones, walking through the infamous Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood in New York City. She is a private investigator who works at Alias Investigations and in the trailer, Jessica Jones decides to jump up to the fifth floor of her office building instead of taking the stairs.

In previous trailers, Jessica Jones – played by Krysten Ritter – has demonstrated her physical strength by crushing her alarm clock to pieces and by flexing her fighting skills. She has also demonstrated a knack for whiskey shots.

This most recent trailer for Jessica Jones is similar to the premier trailer, in that it focuses more on hype than detail. According to C-Net, the premier trailer was set to Of Monster and Men’s song, “Thousand Eyes” and offers some symbolism as to how Jessica Jones acquired her super powers. In the trailer, a barrel of liquid spills and creates Jessica Jones’ Alias Investigations, which refers to the origin story of Jessica Jones, in that she acquired her super powers after a military vehicle that was carrying experimental liquid crashed into the car she was in while her father was driving.

Both parents of Jessica Jones and her brother die in the car crash and she is left an orphan. Jessica Jones subsequently attains her superpowers, only to be captured by a villain named Purple Man. Eventually escaping, Jessica Jones vows to relinquish her powers and instead opens her own private investigative firm called Alias Investigations. Jessica Jones, however, cannot fully rid herself of the superhero world as she takes on cases that investigate those with extraordinary abilities. There is a love interest for Jessica Jones involving the character of Luke Cage who is a hero-for-hire. Jessica Jones also finds herself working for the Daredevil himself, Matt Murdock.

With first Daredevil, and now Jessica Jones, Netflix is hoping to create a series of superhero shows that exist in the same Marvel universe and will involve cross-over plots and episodes. The new Netflix series showrunner Melissa Rosenberg confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that there will be cross-overs between this and series. Daredevil was the first show, having its premier in 2014. Jessica Jones is the second with Luke Cage and Iron Fist being the third and fourth, respectively.

Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter is no stranger to the small screen. She had roles in Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, and Breaking Bad, and starred in the series Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23. Jessica Jones, however, is a new challenge by playing a superhero. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Krysten Ritter said she was overly excited about her role.

“I am now reading the Jessica Jones comics and devouring them. And [I’m] hooked. I don’t think I’ve been so hooked on something since Serial. So now I feel that way about the Jessica Jones series. I can’t wait. I mean, as soon as we’re done today, that’s what I am going to be doing. I’m really excited about Jessica Jones. It’s so [expletive] cool. It’s so cool. I can’t wait to watch it.”
