Watch Emma Stone Eat Cash And Dance Like No-ones Watching

Oscar nominated actress Emma Stone has starred in her first music video, and it is a little off the wall. According to the Daily Mail, Emma is currently filming her latest musical role, La La Land, with co-star Ryan Gosling, but the 26-year-old made time to star in a video for “Anna,” the latest release from rock outfit Arcade Fire’s Will Butler. The quirky video sees Stone dashing through the corridors of a cruise ship. Emma grabs handfuls of money and shows that she is greedy for cash by eating it.

The video seems Emma dashing through the ship dressed in a knee length sleeveless white dress, her strawberry blonde hair hanging loose, as she grabs fistfulls of cash. The video was shot on the retired cruise liner RMS Queen Mary, which is now permanently berthed in Long Beach, California. According to Vanity Fair the song in Emma’s video “feels like a tribute to Cole Porter with a modern twist.” They also claim the cinematic style, featuring long camera shots in narrow hallways, is somewhat reminiscent of Stone’s Birdman movie.

The video begins with Stone in a ship’s cabin looking prim and proper, but, as she makes her way to the ship’s bridge, Emma takes on a different persona. Emma shows off her dance moves as she pulls the ship’s captain into a brief and impromptu dance before Stone continues her journey through the great liner.

According to E! Online Stone’s moves were choreographed by Ryan Heffington, who handled the dancing in Sia’s “Chandelier” and the recent reboot of Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson’s classic “Say Say Say” music video. Emma is directed by Brantley Gutierrez. As Stone makes her way through the ship, she comes upon a group of sailors at a bar mimicking smoking and drinking. Emma comes up behind they and then licks the face of one of the astonished sailors before the whole ensemble breaks into a dance routine with Stone atop the bar.

Throughout the piece, Emma portrays a vibe that is both a throwback to the glory days of ocean liners and yet still futuristic. Stone looks sensational throughout and looks to be enjoying every second of her performance. You get the feeling that Stone and everyone else involved in the video is looking to produce a piece of slightly surreal performance art.

Rolling Stone described Emma’s performance as “madcap” and “absurdly glamorous.”

As the video reaches its climax, Stone is seen playing an invisible piano before she appears in a series of increasingly modern dresses as she dances with the ships crew. The video wraps up with Emma sprawled on the floor amongst a group of uniformed sailors. Stone adds a touch of glamour with a feather fan before smiling enigmatically into the camera as the sequence ends.

According to The Mail, Emma has been a fan of Arcade Fire for some time and attended a concert last year with her boyfriend, Andrew Garfield. Coincidentally, Garfield has also appeared in another surreal Arcade Fire video. He dressed in drag for the bands 2014 video “We Exist.”

This is believed to be the first time that Stone has starred in a music video, but if Emma enjoyed herself as much as she appears to have done in this one, it is highly likely that she would be keen to do more.

Emma Stone won rave reviews for her performance in the classic Broadway show Cabaret last year, so it seems that she may well have caught the musical theatre bug.
