‘The Walking Dead’: When Will The Wolves Appear In Season 6?

In season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead, there was the suggestion of the next big bad — the Wolves — that would wreak havoc on Rick’s group. However, it seems it will take a while for the Wolves to show up in season 6 of The Walking Dead. So, when exactly will fans get a look at this new threat?

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information about season 6 of AMC’s The Walking Dead as well as information from the comic book series the show is based on. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

In season 5 of The Walking Dead, the Wolves were suggested as being close by a few times over he course of the season. The most obvious occasions were when Michonne was standing in front of some graffiti in the Shirewilt estate in Episode 9 (entitled “What happened And What’s Going On”):

Then, at the end of season 5, a walker wearing a red poncho is seen walking past a car with the words “Wolves not far” spray painted onto it. Fans will notice it is likely the place Daryl (played by Norman Reedus) and Aaron (Ross Marquand) visited and got stuck in thanks to an ingenious walker trap:

As well as these two instances, there was also a scene involving Morgan (Lennie James) where he comes across someone from the Wolves group and things about this new threat are explained in greater detail, including the fact they carve the letter “W” into their forehead:

So when exactly will the Wolves appear in season 6 of The Walking Dead? According to early reviews on Episode 1 (“First Time Again”) of Season 6, the Wolves will only get a passing mention. However, Lauren Cohan (who plays Maggie Greene in The Walking Dead) recently told Entertainment Weekly that the Wolves will appear in Alexandria right at the worst moment.

“The group is weakened. And it’s just at that moment when the Wolves come to attack us and it really does seem hopeless to protect the town from these guys.”

From what we can gather, there will be a huge event in Episode 1 of The Walking Dead’s season 6 that will likely be the result of a walker attack due. SFX specialist and Episode 1 director, Greg Nicotero, hinted at this event in an interview on the AMC website. if this is the case, the threat of the Wolves could arrive as early as in Episode 2 of The Walking Dead. So could the Wolves have had their eye on Alexandria and use this opportune time to attack them? If this is the case, it indicates the size of the Wolves group is possibly a lot smaller in comparison to the size of the township of Alexandria.

Lauren Cohan also suggested that with the Wolves arrival — whenever it may be — it will feel like the beginning of the end to the group.

“The Wolves are going to feel like the beginning of the end. The Wolves are going to be incredibly scary and at a time when we have a limited amount of strong people that can actually deal.”

So could Alexandria fall completely when the Wolves attack? Or could Alexandria rise up and defeat the Wolves and reclaim Alexandria again? We know there was confirmation of a recent casting for the character of Paul “Jesus”Monroe who used to be a resident of Alexandria but is now a member of the Hilltop Colony. Therefore, could Jesus and the Hilltop Colony help Alexandria out when the Wolves attack?

However, if AMC follows the comic books closely in season 6, fans will know that the Wolves will be the least of anyone’s problems should Negan appear. So just how bad could it get for the characters in season 6 of The Walking Dead? Only time will tell.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC with season 6 on Sunday, October 11, 2015.
