Shania Twain Cancels Rest Of U.S. Tour: Diagnosed With Upper Respiratory Infection [Video]

Shania Twain has had to cancel the last two dates on the United States leg of her Rock This Country Tour due to an upper respiratory infection, reports Rolling Stone magazine. The concerts in Manchester, New Hampshire, and Albany, New York were cancelled, and will not be rescheduled.

According to Rolling Stone, the New Hampshire date was cancelled just mere hours before the concert was supposed to begin, but according to doctors, Shania needs to “rest for several days after she was diagnosed with a respiratory infection,” a post on the singer’s Facebook fan page read. The post also explained that the “concert dates are unable to be rescheduled due to Shania Twain’s current touring schedule.” The Facebook message has garnered over 700 comments, with fans either sympathetic or angry the last leg of the United States tour was cancelled.

In the post, Shania explained that she “apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause her fans and greatly appreciates their understanding,” reports Billboard magazine.

There’s just 10 shows left in the Rock This Country Tour, and Shania has already played more than 60 shows since kicking off the farewell tour last June, reports Rolling Stone. Shania Twain decided to have one last tour before retiring from travelling for good.

During interviews, Shania explained that she wants to stop touring because “I feel like there are so many other things to do musically, and there is just not enough time to do everything,” including creating a new album.

“I want to write more music. I’d like to spend a lot more time doing that. I’d like to make more records. I want to write for other people. I’d like to write more books. I’ve got a teenage son. I’ve just got a whole decade in front of me that is full already, before it even gets started.”

The Rock This Country Tour has been well received, with audiences enjoying the costume changes, pyrotechnics, aerial tricks, and a 19-song set list, according to Rolling Stone. In an interview with The Morning Call, Shania Twain revealed that during the concert, she’s “going to celebrate [with fans] and reminisce with all of the hits that they know and that we’ve all lived with for all these years now.”

Shania is discussing a 2016 tour in Europe, as well as a new album. Twain has not had an album release since 2002’s Up! and is long over due, according to fans, although Twain has reportedly said she might do another stint in Las Vegas.

For Shania Twain, the tour itself is something of a miracle. After she ended her 2004 tour, Twain decided to focus on motherhood and living a quiet life. However, due to strain, Shania developed lesions on her vocal chords, which wrecked her voice and rendered her unable to sing, reports The Morning Call.

Through intensive therapy, Shania Twain was able to regain her voice, although she lost her ability to hit some high notes, the singer admitted in an interview. In 2012, Twain was able to return to singing, taking a page from Celine Dion’s notebook, returning to the stage with a Las Vegas residential concert entitled “Still The One.”

During her Las Vegas residency, Shania Twain began working on a new album, but it has taken longer than expected, reports The Morning Call. Twain is working on the album as she tours. “I haven’t made enough records in my life and in my career,” Shania insists.

Although she expects that this is her last tour, Shania Twain explained that “it’s certainly not my retirement from music. I will be doing music, I’m sure, till the day I die. I love music too much.”

The Rock This Country Tour is expected to resume Friday, October 9 in Quebec City. Her final concert date will be in Kelowna, British Columbia on October 27.
