‘Power Rangers’ Movie Has Cast Naomi Scott As Pink Ranger, Who Is She And Can She Fight Aliens?

It looks like the new Power Rangers movie is moving forward and fans are quite excited about it. In a surprise announcement on Wednesday on the movie’s official Instagram account, the Pink Ranger has been revealed. Young actress Naomi Scott is taking on this iconic role.

This famous franchise brings out the excitement for those who grew up with the original Power Rangers series back in 1993. When news first came out that Lionsgate was planning on taking on this project. it was rumored that they would be going back to their roots. Hopefully, they will still be sticking with that concept.

The announcement had a photo of Naomi Scott with the caption saying, “It’s official! #NaomiScott will play the #PinkRanger in the @PowerRangersMovie! Coming in 2017…”

The screenplay was written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller and will feature a group of high school teens who have superhero abilities. They will find themselves having to work as a team to save the world from pesky aliens.

Not only did they have the original series officially called Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the 90’s, but there was also the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. These were such a big hit with both kids and adults that when the partnership between Lionsgate and Saban Brands came about in 2014, fans were thrilled with this news. As reported by Variety last year, Saban had released a statement about their movie deal.

“Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from ‘The Hunger Games’ to ‘Twilight’ and ‘Divergent.'”

The power rangers all wear spandex crime fighter suits in specific colors complete with matching helmets. They all work together to fight off villains who are out to take over the world. Of course, they always win, and look cool doing it, as the rangers morph into their superhuman selves.

The Pink Ranger was a fan favorite and carried the ultimate “girl power” message. Originally played by Amy Jo Johnson, the suit will now be handed over to Naomi Scott. Who is this actress? Fans of the Disney Channel may know her in the network’s 2011 original movie, Lemonade Mouth. She landed the role of Mo, one of five high schoolers who end up forming a successful band. She also had a co-starring role in Terra Nova on Fox. In addition, Scott just recently starred in The Martian with Matt Damon.

It looks like she is an up-and-coming young actress who is suddenly getting noticed. Naomi Scott is also a musician and does some dancing as well. Will those talents help her with her new role in this action-filled movie? It certainly won’t hurt. Can she kick some booty? That remains to be seen, but she was a tough cookie on Lemonade Mouth. The 22-year-old, who hails from Britain, has at least proved that she is a decent actress who has the talent to bring her career full throttle in the future.

The Power Rangers movie was originally expected to be completed by summer of 2016, but it has now been pushed back to January 2017. With this official announcement naming the new Pink Ranger, this just gets it one step closer to completion, and a way to get fans of this franchise even more excited for the film’s release.
