Christina Aguilera Is Back Again: The Singer Has Returned For The 10th Season of ‘The Voice’

It is official: NBC has confirmed that pop star Christina Aguilera is coming back for season 10 of The Voice!

Although Season 9 of the Emmy Award-winning show started only weeks ago, NBC is already looking toward the next season and announced Wednesday that Aguilera would be returning.

“The coaches on The Voice continue to bring incredible energy, unrivaled musical expertise and a want-to-win attitude that makes for the perfect ingredients of a two-time Emmy-winning show,” said Paul Telegdy, president of late night and alternative programming at NBC Entertainment. “We can’t wait to see what season 10 will bring.”

Christina’s return as a judge means current judge Gwen Stefani is out, reports E! Online, and not for the first time. The rock star and lead singer of No Doubt first appeared in the red swivel judges chair during the seventh season of the show, but left when Aguilera returned for Season 8.

Hollywood Life reports that Christina’s return was expected. “Everyone knew she was coming back once she left,” an insider told them. “It was always the plan.”

While it might have been expected, everyone may not be happy with Aguilera’s return to The Voice. Before the start of Season 9, reports of Christina’s on-set behavior began to surface, a source told Radar Online.

“No one wants Christina to come back as a judge on season nine of The Voice. She was really difficult to work with this season. Tensions between her and Adam were consistent, but she also just had a really bad attitude.”

Many have called Aguilera a “diva” after reports began to come out saying the singer was repeatedly late and constantly arguing with the other coaches. However, Christina’s “diva” behavior might just be the reason she has always been able to return.

“Christina is a diva, no doubt about it. The crew gets annoyed with her because she is always late and making people wait,” a music industry source told Hollywood Life. “But she brings drama to The Voice, which means ratings.”

This will be Aguilera’s sixth non-consecutive season on the show. The six-time Grammy winner was one of the original four judges, appearing alongside Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and CeeLo Green. But the pop star left after just three seasons before returning for Seasons 5 and 8, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Although Christina is no stranger to the judge’s chair, the singer has never actually won. The closest she came was Season 5, when her team member, Jacquie Lee, was runner-up to Maroon 5 front-man Adam Levine’s pick, Tessanne Chin.

While away, Aguilera and fiancé Matt Rutler welcomed their daughter, Summer Rain, and most recently the singer has been putting in time on her eighth studio album. Christina appeared on NBC’s Today to talk about her excitement, E! Online reports.

“I’ve been loosely working and sort of accumulating ideas of what my next album will be over the last couple of years. I’m excited for my fans to finally be getting something from me; it’s been a while.”

Aguilera will join current coaches Shelton and Levine, who have coached all of the The Voice’s previous nine seasons, and Pharrell Williams, who joined during Season 7.

Although a premiere date has not been set, Season 10 is set to debut sometime in February. The ninth season of the show currently airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
