South African Man Gets 12 Years For Genital Mutilation And Assault Of His Girlfriend

Dubbed the “vagina in pocket man,” Phuti Malema, 34, has been sentenced by a South African court to 12 years in prison for attempted murder, along with five years for sexual assault and genital mutilation after cutting out his girlfriend’s vagina.

His girlfriend, Mapula Malemone, 29, says that justice was not served by the court, after her long-term lover sexually assaulted her and tried to kill her.

Speaking of the attack and genital mutilation, Malemone told the Pretoria News, “Twelve years is too little for what he did to me. Justice was not served.”

Malema was sentenced by the Moretele Magistrate’s Court to 12 years for attempted murder and five years for sexual assault with both terms to run concurrently, meaning that in effect he will only serve 12 years in prison.

The attack came about in a fit of jealous rage in April last year when Malema heard rumors that Malemone had been cheating on him. Reportedly after drinking a large amount of alcohol, Malema waited for his girlfriend to fall asleep and then attacked her, first stabbing her in the neck to paralyze her and then proceeding to cut out her vagina.

According to the Independent, when Malemone awoke after the assault and genital mutilation, Malema reportedly pulled her vagina from his pocket and licked it, saying he had her “nice thing.” He then returned her genitals to his pocket and went to boil water, telling Malemone that he was going to kill her.

Malemone recalled how she awoke in a pool of blood after Malema mutilated her, saying the attack happened while she was asleep, with their three children – a boy, eight, and two girls aged six and four – lying asleep next to her.

“I don’t know how or why he did this to me. I just woke up to hear my children and neighbors screaming out loud. I couldn’t even speak or move.”

Due to the assault and genital mutilation, Malemone is now confined to a wheelchair, unable to care for herself or her children. When making her victim impact statement in court Monday, Malemone said her doctors had said she should pray for a miracle because it is unlikely she will recover from her severe injuries.

It is reportedly unknown what happened to her genitals after Malema showed them to Malemone.

Malemone is set to have another operation later this month at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital and she told the Pretoria News that she is still in severe pain internally and can only walk with a painful limp.

Reportedly Malema pleaded guilty to all charges and represented himself in court during the proceedings. Before he was sentenced, Malema pleaded with the court, asking the magistrate to be lenient and to give him a suspended sentence as he needed to return home to raise the couple’s three children. He said he also wanted to reconcile with Malemone and was sorry for what he had done to her.

Malemona was surprised to hear Malema wanted to reconcile with her, saying, “He can’t fix anything. He is mad. He wanted to kill me.”

When interviewed on the phone by Pretoria News Tuesday she said, “He will be out and what if he tries to kill me?”

Reportedly Malema was given 14 days to appeal against his sentence.

The story brings to mind a recent report on the Inquisitr where a Danish man, living in South Africa, was arrested after 21 pieces of female genitalia were found, stored in plastic bags in his freezer. The man admitted to luring women into his home and performing illegal operations on them, including his own wife.
