Zombie Prank Video Draws Criticism For Insensitivity [Watch]

Posted: June 4, 2012

Tales of zombie attacks and the impending zombie apocalypse have been making the rounds on the internet ever since that whole incident where a man chewed another man’s face off in Miami late last month, so what follows shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, an aspiring filmmaker, decided to have a little fun at the expense of the citizens of Miami by pulling a fake zombie attack prank. The video of the prank was posted to YouTube, where it quickly drew in thousands of views–but not everyone is laughing.

Some called the zombie prank video tasteless and insensitive, while others pointed out that the prank was incredibly dangerous. Considering that the zombie prankster was in danger of being shot around the two minute mark in the video, I’m inclined to agree.

Insensitivity isn’t the only thing about the zombie prank video that is drawing ire. Huffington Post writer Amanda McCorquodale argued that the video was racist, pointing out that the “victims” of the zombie prank were all black.

“The video is not only cringeworthy for taking advantage and mocking others’ actual fear,” McCorquodale wrote (via Examiner). “It also has a blatant racist tone — as some YouTube commenters already pointed out, why is this white man chasing mostly black people?”

If you haven’t seen the zombie prank video yet, you can check it out for yourself below.

Do you think that the zombie prank was insensitive and/or racist, or is the whole thing being blown out of proportion?

McCorquodale doesn't sound like the brightest color in the crayon box. That video was funny……some people just need to chill.

  4. I thought it was funny…. especially at the end when they ended up chasing him and boy did he run….. lmao….

  5. LMAO! While he might have put himself in danger, I really think that folks are a wee bit too sensitive!

  6. This is Hilarious!

  7. I sure hope they caught his ahs

  8. I don't understand… Ms. McCorquodale would rather have zombie-portrayal as more politically correct and racially sensitive? I've never known a zombie to ponder how his actions are being perceived.

  9. I can't believe no 1 shot him…

  10. Smh you pathetic as old as you are!

  11. It was a facetious remark!

Time to start lynching these zombie fucks (real or not). Bludgeon them with baseball bats, hang them and burn them on a stake. Maybe that will discourage these insane fucks from doing drugs and stupid pranksters from being pathetic, and insensitive to the real victims, seeing their own kin charred to cinders.

I hate the way this crazy world is turning.

  13. This was funny as hell

  14. I want to know what happened when they chased him. I thought it was funny, but those kinds of pranks can be dangerous, kinda crazy.

  15. Is not racist, it wasactually brave. If that video is real that guy was really brave.

  18. Wow, not funny.

  19. Exactly its not! She an dumbass

  20. The only thing racist about the video is the comments some people make after watching it. It's a funny video. I was LMAO, but I don't think they should have tried to humorously connect it to what happened on May 26th, 2012. That's not cool.

  21. Hilarious. And if you don't think so, you're probably a zombie.

  22. As a white guy I would NEVER go at a mob of black people attempting to scare them. Just doesn't sound like a good idea.

Something to be said about him only going after African-Americans. Was it racist hmmm it was stupid I tell you that, I am surprised he didn't get his ars whupped before the end. Honestly I am African-American and I thought that was funny as hell. What I found more humorous than anything was the fact that there was only one man….ah zombie and no one turned around to try to whup his ars until the end. Even the guy with the gun and yes that was dangerous for the one pulling the prank but honestly as a female I would have picked up the most dangerous object I could find and go after hm if he was a real zombie he wouldn't run nor could he run as fast as that one did. Sorry that was hilarious. No it shouldn't be associated with the incident but that is why it instilled fear in so many people.

  25. when they caught him and he told them it was a prank, they laughed and eventually offered him crack..sad thing is I'm not lying. these were the words that came out of his mouth in an interview on Tosh.0

  26. Oh my, where was this filmed at.

It's HILARIOUS. It's being blown out of proportion because he even said the white people were just laughing at him, that's why only 2 white people are in the skit. Ashamed at what you guys are saying.

  28. So if this was a black man chasing abunch of white people would you call it racist? Smh…. Everything is racist anymore grow up it was a joke. If this would have happened before the event in Miami this most likely would not have made news. Will people complain over anything?
