Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Announcement Produces Positive Reaction: Watch Out, Apple iPad Pro

The long-awaited Microsoft Surface Pro 4 was finally announced today after months of rumors and speculation. BGR has the news.

“As we expected after countless leaks spoiled the surprise, the Surface Pro 4 is an absolute monster of a tablet. It features a 6th-generation Intel Core processor, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Microsoft says the new Surface is 30% faster than the Surface Pro 3 and 50% faster than the MacBook Air as well.”

BGR adds that the Surface Pro 4 also has a.4mm Gorilla Glass and a 2736 x 1824 pixel resolution 12.3-inch screen. Some people were upset about the fact that the device isn’t going to have a 4K screen, which is something Dell’s slightly larger XPS 13 laptop already has.

According to the Verge, there is a fingerprint sensor on the keyboard and Microsoft’s voice-recognition software, Cortana, is integrated on the device. The Surface Pro 4 is compatible with existing keyboard accessories, though Microsoft is offering a newly improved Type Cover this year. The Surface Pro 4 goes on sale on Monday, October 26. The base unit will cost $899.

Comments after the article on the Verge were mostly positive.

“I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a tech product,” said Commenter Vamoz.

“They really seem to have perfected the product this time around. The Pro 3 was great and an extremely solid product, but this seems to really fix the major issues people had with the device,” Cheshire3 enthusiastically stated.

Twitter was filled with excitement as well.

The Surface Pro 4 definitely has the most powerful specs out of any tablet that will be released this year. Still, it will face heavy competition from Apple’s new tablet, the iPad Pro. Business Insider claims that the iPad Pro will most likely be launched the first week of November and describes the device.

“The iPad Pro has a 12.9-inch screen, making it noticeably larger than Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad Air. It’ll start at $799 for the 32 GB Wi-Fi only configuration.”

Unlike the Surface Pro 4, the iPad Pro doesn’t run a desktop operating system. Instead, it runs iOS 9, the same operating system that is seen on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. However, Apple has added digital stylus support as one can purchase the Apple Pencil for an extra $99. Digital Trends noted that unlike the Surface Pro 3, the iPad Pro cannot replace your laptop.

“The iPad Pro reveal was disappointing if only because the device remains misbranded. This isn’t the iPad that’ll convert Macbook-wielding professionals exclusively to tablet computing. If there were ever a chance Apple could abduct even Microsoft’s infinitesimal Surface audience, it wouldn’t be because of the first-generation iPad Pro.”

Even if the iPad Pro doesn’t come close to providing the quality experience the Surface Pro 4 offers, it is still an Apple product, which means that people will buy it no matter what and add it to their collection of other Apple products. Which tablet are you going to buy — the Surface Pro 4 or the iPad Pro? Let us know in the comments section.
