Caleb Logan Bratayley Dies: 13-Year-Old YouTube Star Dies Of Natural Causes

Caleb Logan Bratayley has died. The 13-year-old YouTube star reportedly passing away in his family home of natural causes.

Caleb was known as part of the Bratayley family, whose daily vlogs attract millions of viewers. Caleb’s mother announced his death in an Instagram message on Friday, saying that the boy’s death was unexpected.

“[Thursday] at 7:08PM Caleb Logan Bratayley passed away of natural causes,” she wrote. “This has come as a shock to all of us. Words cannot describe how much we will miss him.

“His incredibly funny, loving and wonderful spirit made us all fall in love with him as a YouTuber, friend, brother and son,” she continued. “We know you tune in to watch each day and eagerly anticipate new videos, but ask that you bear with us while we deal with this tragedy as a family. Please help us honor our, baked potato.”

The Bratayley family was part of the YouTube content creation company Maker Studios, which was purchased by Disney last year.

Many fans found the news of Caleb Logan’s death difficult to take, and some even believed that the message may have been incorrect or a hoax. But as rumors spread that the account may have been hacked and the news may have been fake, family confirmed the news on Saturday.

They posted an old video that featured Caleb, saying they wanted fans to remember him from happier and healthier times.

“In addition to our desire to give the Internet community the chance to begin the grieving process, we also wanted to post this video to show a healthy and happy Caleb doing what he loved,” the family wrote. “Thank you for all the love and support that everyone has shown our family. And we ask for continued love and support as we move through the grieving process.”

The family has not given more details on the death of Caleb Logan, and have asked for privacy as they grieve.

But many fans were digging for more answers, which Variety noted could lead to a difficult situation for the family who has otherwise allowed their entire lives to play out before millions of viewers.

“That’s part of the challenge facing the Bratayleys, who are seeking privacy for the first time since opening their lives to public consumption since 2010 in daily videos that have amassed over 1 billion views on YouTube alone, according to data from Tubular Labs. Their most popular episode singlehandedly generated over 22 million streams on YouTube.”

But even with their enormous YouTube fame, the family has sought a measure of privacy. Their videos do not say where in the United States they live, and their real last name is not believed to be Bratayley.

Caleb Logan is one of a handful of popular YouTube stars to die in the last few months. In 2014, popular gaming vlogger JewWario, took his own life. Just a few months before that, 13-year-old Joy Castellano, who became famous for her vlog about facing cancer, died of the disease.

The death of Caleb Logan Bratayley has led to an outpouring of condolences on Twitter and YouTube, with thousands of fans leaving messages of support for the family and even other YouTube stars remembering the teen fondly. Shay Carl, the Shaytards vlogger who helped found Maker Studios, wrote, “Praying for & crying over the loss of Caleb. We cling to the hope & faith that families are forever!”
