Manchester United will enter the Premier League encounter against the Gunners as favorites as the Red Devils remains buoyant after beating Liverpool 3-1, embarking on a three-game winning streak, moving them to the top of the Premier League table. United had also managed to register a win in the Champions League group stages. Arsenal, however, have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Champions League and is now flirting with elimination.

Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, was bullish when he faced reporters ahead of the pre-match press conference. Wenger was apparently bothered when quizzed on whether he made a mistake starting back-up goalkeeper David Ospina. Wenger faced criticism after Ospina’s performance in midweek. However, the French manager refused to blame his goalkeeper for the defeat.

The pre-match press conference went from bad to worse for Arsene Wenger after a reporter mentioned whether Jose Mourinho was right to state Wenger was the only manager capable of remaining at a Premier League despite his mediocre record in recent years. The 65-year-old threatened to walk out of the press conference.

As the Mirror reports, Wenger stated, “Do not come always back with that same story. I think you lack a bit creativity in the press, you all follow a bandwagon that is very, very, very, very boring.”

“I think you have not watched well the game on Tuesday night. To come always with the same story. I have two world-class goalkeepers. It’s the easiest choice I have to make, to pick one of those two. A goalkeeper can make a mistake and you have to accept that. If you watched really the game and you come to the conclusion we lost because of Ospina I question your knowledge in football.”

Pressure has been mounting for Arsene Wenger ahead of the Premier League encounter, especially after his insistence of not signing any outfield players in the summer transfer market. Ahead of Arsenal vs Manchester, Arsene Wenger will have to do without Laurent Koscielny due to a hamstring injury.

Manchester United’s Louis van Gaal has defended his counterpart. In fact, the Dutch manager has described Arsenal as the best team in the Premier League. According to the Guardian, Louis van Gaal stated, “I think that he’s doing great work. When you can, like Sir Alex Ferguson, stay in a club for such a long period of time, you have to be very good, otherwise you shall not succeed.”

Manchester United is unbeaten in four away matches against Arsenal. However, the Red Devils have never gone five games unbeaten at Arsenal in the Premier League era. Yet, Arsenal’s worst win percentage in the Premier League is against Manchester United (24 percent).

New signing Anthony Martial has grabbed all the headlines since his move to Manchester United. The wunderkind has sparked life in the Manchester United attack, scoring with four goals in his last five matches. Not everyone is pleased with Martial’s performances. Arsene Wenger was disappointed that AS Monaco had broken their word and sold his compatriot, despite stating he was not for sale earlier this summer.
