‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Actor Nicholas Brendon Arrested In Upstate New York

Actor Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role in the TV show, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, was arrested in upstate New York on Wednesday, following an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend.

The incident took place in Saratoga Springs on Wednesday night, Variety reported. Police were summoned to a hotel shortly before midnight for a report of a domestic disturbance, according to Saratoga Springs Police Department Lieut. Bob Jillson. After they arrived at the room, they found a 33-year-old female acquaintance of Brendon’s, who reported that she had been involved in an incident with the actor. She reportedly told police that Brendon had left the scene before they arrived.

Officers were able to locate Brendon several blocks away from the hotel. He was arrested and spent the night in jail, though he has since been released from custody.

Jillson noted that the woman who reported the incident did not exhibit any physical injuries that officers were aware of at the time. She asserted that she had been visiting Brendon to return some of his belongings, and that the actor became agitated when she attempted to leave. Brendon allegedly took her car keys and then smashed her cell phone, according to Entertainment Weekly. After his arrest, Brendon was charged with two counts of criminal mischief, one count of obstruction of breathing, and one count of robbery in the third degree.

The incident is the latest in a difficult year for Brendon, who has already faced three other arrests in 2015. He and his wife, Moonda Tee, announced their intention to divorce in February. In June, Brendon entered rehab for substance abuse and depression. On both February 16 and March 13, Brendon was arrested after allegedly trashing several hotel rooms. Following the March 13 incident, which took place in Tallahassee, Florida, Brendon asserted that he had recently stopped taking medication that was assisting him in managing his depression.

In August, Brendon taped a segment on Dr. Phil, during which he was set to discuss his issues with both mental health and addiction, but he walked off set when he took issue with the line of questioning that characterized the interview.

In a Facebook missive posted after he walked off the set, Brendon asserted that his addictions and illness are things he struggles with daily, and that he is committed to spending the rest of his life working on those issues. Brendon asserted that “focusing on positivity” is a major factor in his ability to manage both tendencies. He also acknowledged that he had made mistakes in the past, and hurt people close to him.

Brendon had revealed his struggles with alcoholism as early as 2004, when he announced at a Buffy fan convention that he had voluntarily entered a rehab program.

Nicholas Brendon is best known for portraying the character of Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 1996 to 2003, appearing in all but one of the the show’s 144 episodes. During a fifth season episode, his character was split into two people, allowing Brendon to appear onscreen beside his identical twin brother, Kelly Donovan. In 2007, Brendon appeared as Kevin Lynch on Criminal Minds, and his role in that series (which is recurring) remains ongoing.

Brendon has also remained active with the Buffy franchise, albeit in a different capacity. Since 2014, Nicholas Brendon has worked as a writer on the Buffy Season 10 comics.
