TLC Slammed By Critics After Replacing Duggars With ‘Sex in Public’

TLC is being slammed by critics for their new show that premieres tonight. The new TLC series is called Sex in Public and a lot of people think that they are really pushing the limits with this one. Christian Today reported on what viewers think, many stating that TLC is taking it way too far. The series sounds X-rated at first, but in reality it is just about a therapist named Jill Dictrow who will “to get real people to open up about the good, the bad, and the un-sexy when it comes to their personal lives.” TLC is still standing by the show.

This all comes after TLC canceled 19 Kids and Counting starring the Duggar family. It was a show popular with the Christian community, but after the Josh Duggar scandal, TLC decided it was best to cut ties with the Duggar family. For months, TLC refused to put the family on the air, but the network did recently announce a few upcoming specials featuring Jill and Derick Dillard and Ben and Jessa Seewald. Fans have expressed the opinion that the network should allow the show to go on without Josh and it looks like these could be the first steps toward that happening.

The Parents Television Council (PTC) is doing everything that they can to get TLC to change their mind about airing Sex in Public on their channel. PTC President Tim Winter even gave a statement about their feelings on this show airing on TLC on October 2.

“TLC once stood for The Learning Channel, but today it stands for Totally Ludicrous Content. Sadly, this once-noble programmer is the latest in a string of basic cable networks using provocative titles and explicit content in a desperate move to attract attention. And because TLC is part of the cable network bundle, it can use its unfair business leverage to force every cable subscriber in the country to pay for its explicit content, whether subscribers want it or not.”

PTC is urging viewers not to watch this new show on TLC tonight. Fox News shared that therapist Jill Dictrow insists that the new TLC show is all about helping people and isn’t what TLC has made it sound like with the title Sex in Public.

“Not only did I do some therapy in the show, but there was not one person that did not thank me after and say ‘oh my God thank you so much. Thank you for hearing me. Thank you for your input. Thank you for asking me those questions to make me think.”

The Duggar family of TLC has yet to speak out on this new show or share their thoughts. As soon as news came out about Josh Duggar, TLC pulled the show off the air and eventually canceled it. When TLC found out that June Shannon of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was involved with a child molester, TLC canceled her show as well. TLC seems to drop shows in which the stars are doing anything illegal, and PTC is saying Sex in Public is a totally inappropriate replacement.

The show Sex in Public will air on TLC on October 2. It is a 30 minute show, and it will be interesting to see if TLC fans embrace the new show or refuse to watch it due to its branding. TLC doesn’t seem to have any plans to change the name or cancel the premiere. Do you think that TLC is taking it too far with this series and should call it quits? The show’s fate will likely depend on ratings and reactions, after everyone sees what Sex in Public is really about and stops speculating based on the title alone. Sound off in the comments below on your thoughts about the new TLC series.
