‘Minecraft: Story Mode’ Reveals ‘Order Of The Stone’ Heroes And Hollywood Premiere

With the October release of Minecraft: Story Mode closing in, Telltale Games released a new trailer Thursday to help set the stage for the first episode, The Order of the Stone. The developer also announced plans with Mojang for a Hollywood Premiere launch event to create the “World’s Largest Let’s Play” and fleshed out the cast even more.

Minecraft: Story Mode will launch on Tuesday, October 13, for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. This will be followed by iOS and Android releases on October 15 and physical retail releases for the consoles on October 27.

Before that, Telltale and Mojang are hosting a world premiere launch event at the ArcLight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. Tickets to the event are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. How many is unknown at this time, so those interested in attending the event should email Telltale at minecraftpremiere[at]telltalegames[dot]com for additional information.

The event is being billed as a chance for the Minecraft community and Telltale fans to cheer and direct the action on the big screen as part of the World’s Largest Let’s Play. Minecraft gained its fame primarily through Let’s Play videos, so this is a nice nod to those that originally backed the franchise and were responsible for its explosive popularity.

The game is done in the style of many of the Minecraft Machinima videos you see on YouTube, judging by the trailer. That works for the animation style needed to pull off Telltale’s genre of choice and consequence games.

Minecraft: Story Mode features Patton Oswalt and Catherine Taber as male and female versions of the main character, Jesse, which players will be able to choose. In fact, the entire game is backed by an impressive cast list of voice actors from games, television, and film. Telltale also revealed the roles in the game for the rest of the cast as part of today’s announcement.

Brian Posehn plays Axel, Ashley Johnson is Petra, Scott Porter is Lukas, Martha Plimpton is Olivia, Billy West is the narrator, and Paul Reubens is Ivor. Additionally, the four “Order of the Stone” members were revealed as Dave Fennoy as Gabriel the Warrior, Corey Feldman as Magnus the Griefer, Grey Griffin as Ellegaard the Redstone Engineer, and John Hodgman as Soren the Architect.

Billy West is most well known for playing Fry and Professor Farnsworth in Futurama. In fact, you can hear distinct traces of the latter as he narrates this newest trailer.

Who is the “Order of the Stone”? As revealed in the trailer above, they are four legendary heroes who defeated the Ender Dragon before quietly slipping into obscurity. The group is revered by Jesse and his friends, however, and they hope to meet Gabriel during an EnderCon convention.

Disaster strikes during the convention, however. “Terror is unleashed,” requiring Jesse and friends to set out on a quest to find The Order of the Stone to save the world from oblivion.

“Developed in partnership with our friends at Mojang, this all-ages adventure series kicks off a thrilling story full of many elements essential to the world of Minecraft, combined with Telltale’s trademark choice-based gameplay,” said Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games. “There are plenty of exciting details we’ve been keeping under wraps, and we’re thrilled that players will soon be starting their own adventure through the Nether to the Farlands and beyond with Jesse and The Order of the Stone.”

“One of the greatest things about this project is that it gives the community a chance to interact with the world of Minecraft in a new and different way. It also marks the beginning of some exciting narrative-form content based on our game,” said Lydia Winters, Brand Director at Mojang. “We worked directly with Telltale on every step of the process. Together we’ve created a blend of the amazing narratives that Telltale creates with all the fun and adventure you know and love from Minecraft. It’s got everything: creepers, crafting, an incredible cast of characters, and even an adorable pig. How awesome does that sound?”
