Honey Boo Boo Music Single: Alana Thompson Releases ‘Movin’ Up’ [Video]

Honey Boo Boo is back, this time with a new music video! The former reality star has released a song called Movin’ Up, which is her first single. According to Radar Online, Alana Thompson can be seen in the recording studio with some of her family members — sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, and her parents “Mama June” Shannon and Mike “Sugarbear” Thompson — dancing in a dress, and rapping. Yes, rapping.

This music video marks the first official appearance of Alana Thompson and her family since they received word that their reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was canceled by TLC.

The family first rose to fame in 2009 when Alana Thompson appeared on Toddlers And Tiaras. Many people couldn’t get enough of the self-proclaimed “redneck” family (one of their catch-phrases is “You better redneckognize”), and soon the world got a special dose of the Thompson family by way of their very own reality show, which began in 2012. According to CS Monitor, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was pulling in two to three million people per episode, making it a big hit for TLC.

Mama June Shannon really embraced the show, and loved having her little girl as the star.

“This is who she is. This is her everyday life. She’s got her own little personality, especially like when the cameras come on and when she’s got attention,” Mama June said at the time.

Honey Boo Boo and family were taken off the air in 2014 after June Shannon was accused of being in a romantic relationship with a convicted sex offender named Mark McDaniel. Although she denied the claims, execs at TLC did what they felt was appropriate.

Now, it looks like the crew is back to give fame another try, this time by way of pop music. According to the New York Daily News, Movin’ Up was written by Adam Barta, known as the “virtual duet king.” According to his website, Barta has collaborated with several stars including comedian Margaret Cho, Kathy Sledge (of Sister Sledge), reality star Angelina Pivarnick (Jersey Shore) and DJ Russ Harris. He has appeared on Howard Stern a few times, and was named “one of the strongest male vocalists” back in 2007.

“I’m just a small town girl / living in my princess world / When rainy days give me the blues / I break out my dancing shoes. Started out as a pageant queen / then on TV doin’ my thing / Now I’m movin’ up in the world / new house with my girls,” is how the song starts off according to Starcasm.

Honey Boo Boo seemed to have a lot of fun making the music video, but whether or not she actually has a future in the music industry is still a question. While a lot of people think the song is horrible, there are some that will undoubtedly purchase it. Yes, it is for sale on iTunes if you’re at all interested.

Will this be the end for the former reality stars? Probably not. While you probably won’t see Mama June joining Dancing With The Stars, the family doesn’t seem to want to go away quietly (or at all). They are clearly trying to put the scandal behind them and find that limelight once more.

Do you think Movin’ Up is a catchy tune? Will Alana Thompson have any kind of success in the music industry? Sound off in the comments below.
