Ed Sheeran Given Baby Naming Privileges

Ed Sheeran is no stranger to matchmaking. We know that Ed Sheeran introduced Courteney Cox to her now-fiancé, Johnny McDaid, and that he helped his friend Jake Roche, of the band Rixton, to propose to his girlfriend, Jesy Nelson, herself a musician with the band Little Mix.

According to MTV, Ed Sheeran has had his hand in a few other matchmaking endeavors, too, and his success rate is almost perfect so far. When Ed Sheeran performed in Dublin on July 25, 2015, he had a surprise in store for his fans as part of his concert.

As part of his set, Ed Sheeran invited Irish rock band Kodaline to join him onstage to perform a few songs together. After the performances, Ed Sheeran addressed Kodaline member Jason Boland and said for the audience’s benefit, “Jason, you’ve something to say.”

Jason then went on to propose to his girlfriend, Etaoin Corr, from the stage, and received just the reply he was hoping for.

Ed Sheeran doesn’t just help fellow musicians and big-name celebrities with their relationship needs. Earlier this year, in May, 2015, Ed Sheeran invited a fan to join him onstage during a performance of Ed Sheeran’s song “Of All the Stars,” so that the fan could propose to his girlfriend from the stage. Thankfully she said yes, otherwise that could have been awkward for all concerned. Ed Sheeran was so moved by the whole display that he posted a video of the proposal on his Twitter profile.

And in March, 2015, Ed Sheeran “crashed” a fan’s wedding to perform his song “Thinking Out Loud,” which has unintentionally become a popular wedding song ever since its release.

Joking about his surprise performance on Instagram later, Ed Sheeran posted a photo of himself with the newlyweds and their children.

“Just surprised this lovely couples first dance. Available for weddings, birthdays and bar mitzvah’s, contact your local super market for details.”

So we’ve established that Ed Sheeran is a bit of a cupid, and a successful one at that. It seems that when Jake Roche asked Ed Sheeran if he would help him with his intended proposal, it came at a price: and it was a price that Jake was all too willing to pay.

According to Metro, Jesy Nelson revealed on the UK radio station KISS FM that her now-fiancée struck a deal with Ed Sheeran before the proposal went ahead.

“He said to Jay that he would do (the proposal) and then he was like, ‘But only if I can name your child.’ And Jake was like, ‘Well maybe not their first name, you can give them the middle name.’ “

But before Ed Sheeran starts researching the origins of different baby names, he needs to remember that there is currently no baby to speak of. In fact, Jesy Nelson seems to be way too busy to be even thinking about babies right now. She’s only just become engaged to Jake Roche, and, according to Xpose, she and her Little Mix bandmates Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Perrie Edwards are in the middle of the most successful period ever, in the lead up to the release of “Get Weird,” their third studio album release.

On the other hand, Ed Sheeran may not have to wait too long before his baby naming privileges come into play. The Little Mix band members have revealed that they would be prepared to take a break from music stardom if circumstances demanded that they needed a rest. Speaking about the success of One Direction, they revealed that it would be lovely to take a break after achieving global success.

“If we’re ever at their [One Direction’s] level and we’d like a break, it would be lovely! We haven’t scraped the surface of what we want to achieve yet. Like we’ve… we have achieved so much but we want global success.”

With that being the case, perhaps they would also be willing to take a break if, just for example, one of them was pregnant?
