WWE News: Huge Title Plans For Seth Rollins Stopped By Triple H, But Still In Play

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has been going through a year of highs. Since the summer of 2014, Rollins has been put into the main event, and has lived up to it all by delivering fantastic matches with some of the best WWE Superstars of today and yesteryear. Triple H has been a fan of Rollins for years, and seemingly picked him as a potential main event talent when he was in FCW years ago. Rollins is still the only man to ever win the FCW, NXT, and WWE World Heavyweight Championships.

It seems that every time he has been a singles worker, he has held either a briefcase or championship. At one point, Rollins was the only man to have ever held the WWE United States and WWE World Heavyweight Championships at the same time. Most feel that Rollins will continue to win championships over the years and remain in the main event picture for a long time.

While Rollins did make history when he won the US Title from John Cena at WWE SummerSlam, WWE wanted for him to make history in a different way beforehand.

According to Daily Wrestling News, going into WWE Night of Champions in early September, WWE had plans for Seth Rollins to beat Ryback for his WWE Intercontinental Championship. That would push Rollins into Night of Champions as a triple champion, and would be forced to defend all three at the event.

Rollins Authority

The idea was for Rollins to defeat Ryback for his title on the WWE RAW before Night of Champions. Ryback would then request his rematch at the annual PPV, and would be granted his request.

Triple H was said to have nixed the idea by creative, as he felt it would be too much pressure for Rollins to have three matches all in the same night. He felt it would be overkill for a man to wrestle three times in the same night these days, like he once did years ago. He also felt that this was something WWE didn’t need to rush, which makes many believe that the plan is still in play for Rollins or someone else at a later date.

This is a pretty big situation. Rollins would take both mid-card championships and the only World Title in WWE. No man has ever held three singles titles of that level at the same time in WWE. In a place like TNA, you expect to see things like this. They did it as a gimmick.

Rollins J&J

However, to have a man hold championships and then not defend at least two of them at a PPV would be wrong. WWE Night of Champions is an anomaly. Rollins would be forced to defend all three there. At other shows WWE has, this simply does not happen — especially if Rollins is still aligned with The Authority at the time he accomplishes such a thing.

The fact that Triple H did not rule such an idea out means that the company very well could do it at some point, with Rollins or someone else, in the future. No man has ever held more than two singles championships in WWE. Some have held the tag team championship and a singles title or two. However, never three. So would WWE want Seth Rollins to make history once again as a tri-champion? Especially in today’s WWE?

It would not be helpful for him to do these days. Three men would gun after him, two at the very least. With The Authority being short-staffed, this idea does not seem to be smart. In the end, it was smart for The Game to nix the idea. However, it may not be a smart move in the future for WWE. It would take titles away from people who could put on matches to help get people over. You remove at least 2 to 3 other men from title matches by having Rollins hold all three. How do you build others at the same time when you put all of your eggs in the one basket Rollins happens to be holding?
