Katy Perry Rules Rock In Rio Concert, Fights L.A. Convent

Katy Perry’s Prismatic World Tour may be ending, but that doesn’t mean that the singer is done with her colorful era. She reminds fans that she’s still one of the biggest pop stars in the world with her iconic performance at Rock in Rio.

Katy Perry, 30, brought her fun and colorful style to the stage in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil over the weekend. Perry made heads turn in the crowd with her prismatic skater skirt and matching crop top, which is the same Robert Cavalli design she’s worn on her world tour. She completed her glitzy look with a braided high ponytail. Even Perry’s backup dancers were dressed like something out of the Tron movies.

The “Dark Horse” singer performed a medley of her hits as she danced around on stage and attempted to hype up the crowd. Katy Perry received rave reviews for her theatrics, rather than her singing abilities. Her set list included her biggest singles, such as “Roar,” “Dark Horse,” “Part of Me,” and “Wide Awake,” along with the fan-favorite, “Legendary Lovers,” and her breakout single, “I Kissed a Girl.” Perry also slowed it down to sing, “By the Grace of God,” while cats and stars played out on screen behind her.

Katy Perry’s Rock in Rio performance didn’t just include songs from Prism and One of the Boys. The singer took it even slower as she pulled out her guitar for an acoustic performance of “The One That Got Away,” from her 2010 release Teenage Dream.

One of the audience members was allegedly under the influence of something in the middle of Perry’s show. The pop star invited her up on stage. The fan couldn’t stop kissing and hugging Katy, who at one point told the audience, “I think she’s rolling!” The funny moment made fans make the woman’s name “Rayane” (Raiaiaia) trend on social media.

Perry has a lot to celebrate at the moment. Her Prismatic World Tour has been one of the most popular tours for the singer. Perry also made headlines earlier this year with her memorable performance at Super Bowl XLIX, and by introducing the world to Left Shark. Fans have been patiently waiting for Perry’s Prism follow-up, but it looks like the singer won’t hit the recording studio until she’s completely done with her world tour.

She’s also in the middle of a bitter battle with nuns who are attempting to prevent her from purchasing a former convent in Los Angeles. Katy reportedly wants to turn the $14.5 million property into a family home. According to businesswoman Dana Hollister, Katy Perry would make an unsuitable homeowner because of her racy music and image.

Now, the singer’s hitting back at Hollister, accusing her of “taking advantage of vulnerable, elderly nuns who she malevolently convinced to oppose the Roman Catholic Church.”

The convent used to be home to over 100 nuns, but only five nuns between the ages of 77 to 88 currently live at the secluded hilltop property. Perry allegedly doesn’t have any intentions for the convent other than to turn it into a family home for her mother, Mary Perry, and her grandmother, Ann Hudson, whom she’s both close with.

One of the five nuns, Sister Rita Callanan told The Los Angeles Times that she doesn’t believe Katy Perry’s a great fit for the convent because of her sexually suggestive music videos. She said, “I found Katy Perry’s videos. I wasn’t happy with any of it.”

Katy Perry is fighting back by suing the rival buyers, who are interfering with her contract and buyer rights. She’s been in a feud with the five nuns since early this spring. Earlier this month, a judge ruled that Hollister could pay monthly rent to the remaining nuns who live there. They would also have to vacate the property once the final pending decisions are made about its sale. Hollister’s representatives have declined to comment on the situation.
