AlDub Update: Fans Spread #AlDubThisMustBeLove As Drama Between Yaya Dub And Alden Smashes Records

The AlDub drama has reached new heights, with fans spreading the #AlDubThisMustBeLove hashtag just one date after the popular Eat Bulaga saga smashed Twitter records.

For those not in the know, AlDub is a love story playing out on the popular Philippines noontime show Eat Bulaga. The story, which has been going on for the past several weeks now, follows Alden and Yaya Dub as they navigate through a series of obstacles and near-misses to develop their relationship.

The show has been steadily gaining more and more followers, and along the way they have been increasingly sharing the show’s daily hashtags on Twitter. The social sharing set a record last weekend, when the first date between Yaya Dub and Alden generated more than 12 million tweets.

But that record didn’t stand long. This weekend the hashtag #ALDubEBforLOVE generated an incredible 26 million tweets in just about 24 hours.

Saturday’s show featured a meeting between the lovers, with Alden singing “God Gave Me You” to Yaya.

Now the pair are getting a shout out from the song’s original artist.

Bryan White posted an announcement on Monday that he would be in Manila for a concert on December 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the Inquirer noted.

White’s song, which was released in 1999, has become a huge hit in the Philippines after being featured in the AlDub story. White even posted a message thanking his new fans.

In a video he posted on his Facebook page on September 19, White thanked his Filipino fans for their support.

“It’s crazy how 15 or how many years later, it’s becoming a really big success in your country. I can’t thank you enough for your support… I just can’t believe how music travels and you just never know where it’s gonna end up and what’s gonna happen with it,” he said.

Tickets for the concert go on sale on October 1, and judging by the reactions on Twitter it will be a very popular event.

The song played a big role in Saturday’s episode, helping it find an enormous audience. The episode itself reached a ratings peak for Eat Bulaga in 2015, and only the “Fight of the Century” between Filipino native son Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. had higher ratings.

GMA Network reported on the record numbers.

“The pound-for-pound king’s last exclusive fight on GMA-7 against Chris Algieri last November drew 43.8 rating, less than a point above the AlDub number.

“Pacquiao’s fight against Mayweather last May, which was simulcast over three different networks, drew a 28.4 rating on GMA-7, 12.7 on ABS-CBN, and 3.3 on TV5 – a total rating of 44.4. That was just 1.3 points higher than Eat Bulaga’s Saturday episode.”

There are some who have grown worried that Eat Bulaga may start to run the AlDub story into the ground, but host Joey de Leon said he doesn’t think that is the case.

Joey told GMA that he believes the show can continue drawing in fans, and that it has helped Eat Bulaga reach an all-time peak.

But there is some competition on the horizon. Competing noontime program It’s Showtime has introduced its own love story, one featuring the viral video star known as Pastillas Girl. Like the AlDub saga, It’s Showtime‘s story follows the girl as she tries to find her true love.

There is even word that It’s Showtime could be planning a live concert later this year, something that could match the excitement for the upcoming Bryan White concert.

While it may be hard for AlDub fans to top this weekend’s record, fans were already off and tweeting the Monday hashtag #AlDubThisMustBeLove, making it the top trend in the Philippines.
