NFL Rumors: Drew Brees Out For Several Games

NFL rumors now predict Drew Brees will miss several games. These NFL rumors will hurt fantasy football owners as well as the New Orleans Saints, possibly taking the team out of playoff contention very early in the season. A report from CBS Sports on Sunday, September 27 relays the bad news for fans of Drew Brees. His shoulder injury continues to cause him problems and will “likely” force him to miss several games.

The original prognosis from the Saints was that Brees simply had a bad bruise, but it is actually a rotator cuff sprain. This requires a bit more rehab and has him already getting called a “long shot” to play in a Week 4 games against the Dallas Cowboys. That’s bad news all around and also coincidentally creates a Saints vs. Cowboys game with backup quarterbacks playing for both sides.

The Saints already have a really tough game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3 that will have to be played without Brees. Immediately following a 26-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, NFL rumors indicated that Drew Brees would miss at least one game with a shoulder injury. This is one early season game that the team can’t afford to play without him, though, as the Panthers are their primary division rival. Losing this game would make it very tough for the Saints to make the 2016 NFL Playoffs.

On the New Orleans Saints’ schedule is a home game against the Cowboys on October 4, and then a road game against the Philadelphia Eagles on October 11. NBC has the Saints vs. Cowboys slated as the Sunday night game, but it may have become far less watchable with this latest players news. At 0-2 the Saints are already in a very tough spot as a team, with a lot of pressure being placed upon backup quarterback Luke McCown. Though it’s just Week 3, the Saints now face a must-win game against Cam Newton.

Fantasy football owners definitely need to have a backup quarterback option ready for at least the games against the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys. It’s also important to note that the Saints have a bye in Week 11, so that’s key when trying to trade for a second quarterback this early in the fantasy season. More news about Drew Brees and his shoulder will come out early in Week 4, with the possibility of him playing in Week 4 slated as very unlikely. Stay tuned to NFL rumors on the situation as to whether or not he is ready to play by Week 5.
