Rihanna Headlines Day 6 Of Rock In Rio Festival, Fans Gush Over Performance On Twitter

Rihanna may be keeping mum regarding news of her upcoming eighth studio album, but that didn’t stop the “Diamonds” singer from putting on an incredible performance for Day 6 of the annual Rock In Rio music festival in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Rihanna took to the stage on September 26 to perform a medley of her greatest hits, giving fans the opportunity to revisit some of Rihanna’s most famous chart-topping singles from her previous seven albums.

The “B**** Better Have My Money” singer donned a matching set of yellow baggy trousers and a billowy jacket with a fitted black bodysuit underneath, complete with a stunning combination of sparkling jewelry, winged eyeliner, and deep purple lips, Daily Mail reports.

Rihanna rocked the crowd just after Sam Smith gave an equally hair-raising performance for the Rock In Rio festival, with the “Stay With Me” singer being spotted several times dancing to Rihanna’s setlist in the crowd alongside Rihanna’s close friend, Cara Delevingne.

According to Hot New Hip Hop, Rihanna’s hit-filled set included the likes of “Rockstar,” “Only Girl,” “S&M,” “Rude Boy,” and “Umbrella” before jumping into hits from her seventh studio album, Unapologetic, with “Phresh Out The Runway,” “Jump,” and “Diamonds.”

Rihanna also performed her 2011 collaborative hit with Drake, “Take Care,” before concluding the energy-filled show with her most recent hit, “BBHMM.”

While some fans were a bit disappointed that Rihanna didn’t perform any new songs from her upcoming album, tentatively titled R8, Rihanna did preview her track “Only If For A Night” during the intro to her set.

Despite the lack of news from Rihanna regarding her highly anticipated new album, fans took to Twitter to gush over Rihanna’s hair-raising performance.

One fan writes, “rihanna killed it at rock in rio brasil last night she looked flawless as always what a queen,” while another simply adds, “She’s back.”

Similarly, another user points out, “After the rock in rio @rihanna got 6 songs in the top 20 itunes Brazil..SLAY,” while one fan expresses their excitement for Rihanna’s new music, “After this excellent performance last night, I’m so phucking thirsty for new @Rihanna music #RockInRio.”

Speaking of her new music, Rihanna recently opened up about the status of R8 during an interview with NME earlier this month.

While Rihanna admits that her new album isn’t finished just yet, the singer explains that she has recorded “so many songs I love, and they’re so different, that it’s hard to actually put them all on the same album.”

Similarly, Rihanna notes that she doesn’t even have an official title for the project just yet, revealing that she has been calling the project R8 since it’s the fan-given name to the project in honor of it being her eighth studio album.

While Rihanna recognizes that fans are more than eager for her to drop the project, she admits that she’s still working in the studio alongside her “FourFiveSeconds” collaborator, Kanye West.

“Kanye definitely wanted to be involved in making the album. So he did start helping me make it. Now we just have to wait to get back in the studio together. His schedule and mine are totally opposite right now, but I think this month we’ll be back in the studio.”

Similarly, Rihanna admits that while it’s “easy” to make an album full of great music, she wants to ensure that her fans “go for the ride” and that “the songs have to make sense together.”

While some reports suggest that Rihanna has yet to see success with her past three singles, “FourFiveSeconds,” “American Oxygen,” and “B**** Better Have My Money,” Rihanna admits that she’s in love with the diversity of the singles.

“I love what I love, and these songs each have their own demeanor, and the videos reflect the character of each song. I want every video to take you on a different journey. A different ride.”
