AlDub Update: Saturday’s Date Between Yaya Dub And Alden Pushes ALDubEBforLOVE To Twitter Record

AlDub has crushed its own record, with Saturday’s #ALDubEBforLOVE hashtag blowing up on Twitter to the tune of more than 25 million tweets.

The AlDub saga started as an unlikely love story on the Philippines noontime show Eat Bulaga, and through August and September has quickly grown into a global phenomena. Fans across Asia and even the United States are now following the drama between Alden and Yaya Dub, who have been through a series of trials.

On Saturday’s episode, Alden Richards visited Maine “Yaha Dub” Mendoza at her aunt Lola Nidora’s mansion. The episode, and the meeting, was seen as a follow up to the previous Saturday’s episode, when the two went on their first ever date.

The episode was the most popular of the AlDub series to that point, getting more than 12 million Tweets for the #AlDubMostAwaitedDate hashtag.

Days later, GMA determined that the episode had ratings beaten only by native Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.

As GMA Network reported, the “Fight of the Century” between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was the only television event to top AlDub.

“Powered by the AlDub nation, the long-running noontime show posted a rating of 43.1 in Mega Manila according to AGB Nielsen, a new high for 2015.

That number puts the 36-year-old program in rarefied air, as it has reached the level of Pacquiao fights.

The pound-for-pound king’s last exclusive fight on GMA-7 against Chris Algieri last November drew 43.8 rating, less than a point above the AlDub number.

Pacquiao’s fight against Mayweather last May, which was simulcast over three different networks, drew a 28.4 rating on GMA-7, 12.7 on ABS-CBN, and 3.3 on TV5 – a total rating of 44.4. That was just 1.3 points higher than Eat Bulaga’s Saturday episode.”

But now, #ALDubEBforLOVE may have topped even that. The episode had fans flooding Twitter even hours before it aired on Eat Bulaga, breaking the previous record of 12.1 million tweets even before the episode aired. By late on Saturday, it had 25.7 million tweets.

At one point, about an hour after the AlDub episode ended, there were about 2.5 million tweets per hour.

The episode also had plenty of memorable moments for AlDub fans, including Alden crying while he sang “God Gave Me Your” to his love. Alden and Yaya Dub also grew much closer, while still following Lola Nidora’s “no touching” rule.

It remains to be seen whether #ALDubEBforLOVE has pushed AlDub to a new ratings high, but if the drama between Yaya Dub and Alden continues to draw in fans, it could be toppling Manny Pacquiao’s viewership record in short time.
