Casper Van Dien Divorcing Royal Wife Catherine Oxenberg

Casper Van Dien is divorcing his wife, Catherine Oxenberg, after 16 years of marriage.

The two actors headed to splitsville after a respectable length of time together because of the typically stated “irreconcilable differences” on the divorce paperwork.

Casper Van Dien made the move to begin the process of divorcing his wife by filing paperwork in Los Angeles earlier in the week, according to TMZ.

Oxenberg and Van Dien share two teenage daughters together, 14-year-old Amanda and 11-year-old Celeste, and their father is asking for joint custody of the children.

Van Dien already has custody of two children from a previous relationship. Oxenberg also has another child, whose father she never identified.

Van Dien, a Starship Troopers star, does not want to pay spousal support to his soon-to-be ex-wife after the divorcing process is complete. He is also not asking for spousal support from Oxenberg.

Oxenberg starred in Dynasty in the 1980s. She is somewhat of a royal because her mother is Princess Elizabeth of the former country of Yugoslavia, and she is Prince Charles’ second cousin (once removed), according to People.

The actress is 1375th in the line of succession to the throne of the United Kingdom.

Together, the two starred in a reality TV show I Married A Princess. They are both celebrity ambassadors for the non-profit organization Childhelp.

Originally, the two met during the filming of the 1999 TV movie The Collectors. Later that same year they worked together in the film The Omega Code.

Their courtship was short and they wed the same year they met. On May 8, 1999, they married in Las Vegas.

This isn’t the first time Van Dien or Oxenberg have had to end a marriage. Both have experienced the pain of divorcing spouses once before in the past, although Oxenberg’s first marriage was annulled after only nine days.

While Casper Van Dien divorcing royal wife Catherine Oxenberg is nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to Hollywood couples, hitting the 16-year mark of the marriage seems to be quite a feat. The disappointment of ending a marriage after so long, and with children involved, is more complicated than a quick stereotypical Hollywood divorce.

Hopefully the couple already decided upon amicably parting ways as soon as they began divorcing.
