Harry Potter fans all over the world continue to support J.K. Rowling and her beloved Harry Potter series, even after the last installment of the book and movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The clamor for more Harry Potter content has spawn many spinoffs and Harry Potter-inspired material such as the Harry Potter website Pottermore, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie in 2016, and countless Harry Potter-themed cafes and paraphernalia, among others.

This coming Summer 2016, Harry Potter fans rejoice as J.K. Rowling confirmed a Harry Potter play is set to open in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre, entitled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Little has yet to surface about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but the latest news from J.K. Rowling, via Twitter (of course), is that the upcoming Harry Potter play will be staged in two parts.

So how exactly will the two parts work? Is it something like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where fans had to wait for an entire year before seeing the other half? Well, fret not. The Daily Mail reports that the two parts of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play will play in tandem, so you can see both parts on the same day or one play today and the other tomorrow. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is brought to life by Rowling, director John Tiffany, and writer Jack Thorne. Rowling has admitted that countless offers had been extended towards her to extend the Harry Potter story, but this project with Tiffany and Thorne has been worth the wait. Asked why she did not decide to create Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as a book, and then later a movie, she responds via Twitter that Harry Potter fans will understand once they watch the play.

“I am confident that when audiences see the play, they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story.”

Tony and Olivier Award-winning director John Tiffany shares how overwhelming working on the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child play has been.

“I’ve never worked on anything quite like this before. Usually in theatre you’re adapting existing material or creating an entirely new play. With the Cursed Child we have been given the unique opportunity to explore some of the most cherished books and beloved characters ever written, yet work with J.K. Rowling to tell a story from that world that no one yet knows – it’s exhilarating. It shares a scale and ambition with all the Harry Potter stories so in order to do this justice we have decided to present the play in two parts.”

J.K. Rowling continues to stay mum about the new Harry Potter play, but she’s excited, as much as thousands of Harry Potter fans the world over, about the upcoming play. What we do know right now is that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will not be a prequel, but something fantastic and great altogether, bringing some of the most beloved characters from the Harry Potter canon back to life.
